jet2 Cancelled Berlin Flights

God have planned booked and paid for a holiday to berlin and Amsterdam for my husband's 40th in January. It took me so bloody long to do but I sorted it. Today get an e mail from Jet2 saying that due to operational difficulties they've pulled the Manchester to berlin Route. God I need to fly out 16 Jan 2008, 2 adults to berlin from ooop North (have paid in full for the hotel) How on earth do I find another carrier at a simillar price. All help appreciated x

  • I can't remember who, but I'm sure a budget airline do Newcastle to Berlin. May be Easyjet
  • Try Airberlin from Manchester or Easyjet from Liverpool

I am sure that the budget airlines that did this route from Newcastle actually pulled out a while back.

It was easyjet who did Newcastle-Berlin; as sloppychops states they pulled out of Berlin a while back and started offering Krakow instead. If you're based near Manchester I would think Easyjet from Liverpool would be the most convenient.

Thanks all, I didnt think of Easyjet as I knew we were flying back in to Manchester from Amsterdam, so our car would be there. Air berlin are not booking for those dates yet and Lufthansa come out about £135 so at least we know we can get there but it may even be cheaper to get the easyjet flights and the train each way (we live in scarborough). Thanks for all your help I will stop panicking now!
  • I live in your part of the world and regularly go to Berlin.... ;-)

I've been avoiding Jet2 because rummours are that they are in a spot of financial trouble, which is the reason why they haven't upgraded their old clapped out planes (Old planes cost a lot to run and, if they want to follow the lost cost model, they should be ordering new, cheaper to run, planes by now)

EasyJet from Liverpool are OK, as long as you are OK with delays. I've made about 6 return trips this year from Liverpool. Not one has been on time. Average delay is usually an hour. EasyJet from Luton is usually on time, 3 return flights a day and cheaper, but Luton is 3hrs from you. The very long queues at passport control when you return are painful at Luton though.

AirBerlin gives great service (for a price) although this is via Stanstead. It's great going out, but a pain coming back as you have to do the grand tour of Stanstead Airport to get back on the plane you flew in on.

Basically North West England to Berlin is a weak route. BA/BA Connect never made any money from it. FlyBe didn't bother with the route when they took over from BA Connect.

You said you're going to Amsterdam and Berlin. I'm not sure which way around you're doing things but if I understand correctly, why are you bothering coming back to Manchester from Amsterdam only to turn around and go to Berlin? I'd advise you check out KLM from Amsterdam to Berlin and back. You could also try www.transavia.com which is the lowcost airline of belonging to KLM/AirFrance.

You could always take the train from Amsterdam to Berlin too. It's 6.5 hours - check out www.db.de

Whatever you decide to do, Berlin is a fantastic city. You won't need to break the bank whilst you're there, but take a good warm coat if you're going in January!

Low cost - who flies where site.

Choice of 3 airports for Berlin - so you'll need to know which one.
