Taxi's

Options
Forgive me if this isnt in the right section...

A neighbour of mine has approximately 9 black taxi's parked outside his property. I assume he rents them out and drives one himself.
They are parked mostly fully on the pavement and are a nuisance to walk around and also they block visibility of the road on the corner when you need to pull out into traffic

I was wondering if he is breaking any laws by doing this. I was thinking of making a complaint to the council but not sure really if he is a fault

    Are they parked legally?

If so then what does it have to do with anybody else?

If they are parked illegally or dangerously then inform the Police or Local Council.

Are you sure you don't just resent your neighbour cluttering up the area with Taxis?'

Would be equally as upsetting if they were all S Class Mercedes or Ferraris?

It's not usually illegal to park on the pavement, except for in London and some areas where it will be signposted. He could possibly be done for causing an obstruction.

You need to speak to the council planning department. It sounds like he is running a business from his home which he needs planning permission for. They will soon knock on his door and ask him about it. Also speak to your local councillor and see what he can do.

phill99 - thanks for the feedback, i was wondering about the business side of it, my husband thought the owner really should by hiring a yard and parking the vehicles there

talk to him about the obstruction?
  • How much of a nuisance is it to walk around the vehicles? Is there enough room for a pushchair or wheelchair to go along the pavement?

no not enough room for pushchair or wheelchair
It more about not being able to see oncoming traffic when pulling out for me personally.
I guess i could have a word with him if i see him next time i'm passing

If you weren't concerned about the kind of vehicle you wouldn't have mentioned the type of vehicle or the fact you thought he was renting them out......

bigjl - my husband owns JCB's if he parked them outside our house it would be a problem that's why we discussed it when driving past several times over the last couple of months

No vendetta here, dont even know the guy with the taxi's, just a little concerned about crashing into incoming cars when pulling out of the bottom of my road.... But thanks everyone else for the helpful posts and information
