Dell Laptop 1.86Ghz 2Gb 160Gb < £450 inc del

Evalue Code 202-N09643

edit: Sorry missed telling you its the Inspiron 6400 :)

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?cs=ukbsdt1&kc=202&oc=N09643

Best price £411.32 - compare that to anything else for this spec

Best config for price imo:

Add Truelife screen
Add 9 cell battery
Reduce to 1 year base warranty

Has 1.86Ghz dual core Intel
2Gb RAM
160Gb HD
Vista (Business)

Comes to £445.57 through Small Business section - it's a bargain (delivery is £60 that's a shame but that is included in the price), there is one in the Outlet section without the Trulife and better battery for £550.

I can't get it to work.... I've tried typing the ecode in.

Ah I found it it's the inspirion 6400 :) If you can't get it to work go via special offers and then just price up with the bits you want on it.

Does it make any difference buying from the samll business section? I seem to recall a mention that your rights for return etc were different but I can't remember any detail.

I seem to recall reading that also, however there were no specifics.

If you wish you can order the better spec apart from a 120Gb hard drive instead of a 160Gb from the Home department for £613.99

    £447.57 or £613.99? Your choice - worth a risk?
  • is this a good price thinking of going for it with the true life screen and a memory stick.
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.:D

Do you mean extra internal memory or a USB stick?

It's fully populated inside with 2Gb of RAM (2x 1Gb sticks).

I'd get a USB drive from elsewhere, my 4Gb was from Thiefbay several months ago and was about £18 delivered - its £50 from Dell, leave well alone.
  • I need a laptop for when I start Uni. I need it to run Office, Photoshop, Macromedia Director and Dreamweaver and for surfing the web. Do you think this will do everything I need it to do?

Also what is the difference between the different screens you can get? My friend says to go for a "brightscreen", but I don't really know what this is? Should I go for the truelife screen?

My friend who has just completed the first year of this course has a Gateway MX6635B laptop which has 1.73Ghz intel pentium M740, 1Gb RAM, 100GB HD, intel GNA900 integrated graphics, 15.4" LCD brightscreen(?). So I know that I need these specs or better.

    Thanks :D

loving SW - 5st off and counting! :j
  • Hi,
Why do you have to have a brightscreen? I have this on my Gateway laptop, but have purchased a Dell Inspiro for a friend which has the 'normal' screen, and to be honest i prefer it as it has no reflection and is better in normal light.I find my screen 'aggravates' me a bit.
Just personal preference i suppose, but i would recommend trying out both different types of screen first.
BTW, well impresed with he Inspiron, looks and feels great and i really like the multimedia buttons on the front, well handy. That will be my next choice when coming to buy a laptop.

Just one word of warning with delivery from Dell. you pay £60 for the privelage and they don't tell you when you will receive it until after you have bought the goods. They send you an email with a delivery date which is also a 'ballpark' date. I bought one from the offer on the grabbit board 2 weeks ago which I was told would be delivered on the 10 Sep. I then got another e-mail this week saying it had been delayed until the 19 Sept due to high popularity. I think a lot of the Dell offers are good for the price (as is this one) but the delivery is not ideal and to me done in a bit of a clandestine way for the grand sum of £60.
A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist.
