The clause about early termination is a little ambiguous I must admit0

I'm surprised this is the case I must say, as I thought a joint tenancy effectively meant you were 1 person
It does but there are a lot of poorly written tenancy agreements out there and there are some even worse break clauses. At least this seems as though it gives you an early out. :beer:0 -
I just hope that no mistake has been made and I'll receive written confirmation of acceptance of my notice to quit!
Surely the terminations department at head office wouldn't make a mistake like that though given all their AST contracts are the same?0 -
The letting agent in question who I rented this property through are Your Move. I know them to be a fairly big company so I would have thought their ASTs are pretty water tight0

Sometimes the bigger they are, the worse they are

Well lets hope the guy at the terminations department hasn't made a mistake haha!
The legal advisor I saw this morning advised me that once I had in writing that my notice to quit had been accepted, I will be able to remove my name from the tenancy agreement at the 6 month stage.
Is this the case even if they've made a mistake? She said they would have to uphold that if they'd given it in writing0 -
To summarise my problems with the flat for people who are confused, the number 1 issue is there is no adequate heating in the property, making it cold and damp. The landlord has refused to rectify this.
Another separate issue, but important, is my housemate and myself do not get on. She refuses to do any cleaning, pay bills and is not very nice to me, so obviously I don't want to stay here even if the heating situation was rectified.
I am aware of course that I signed a legally binding contract, and regardless of whether it was a mistake or not, I am obliged to follow the rules set out in the contract and I am no more important than any other person, so I can't just walk away from the contract.
I am looking for a way out, and hopefully I've found one, but if I couldn't get out, I'd continue to pay my rent etc0 -
With respect to the heating bills etc, make sure you get meter readings (take a pictures) and advise the utility supplier that your ex co-tenant is the sole tenant and will be picking up the tab.
If you are not staying there and she has not paid her share of the bills to date, consider doing that now.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Easy to do with the electricity and water, how about the broadband?
That's in my name, can she take over the contract or do I need to cancel that (I'm aware there will be a cost to early termination of the contract)0 -

Oh yes they might.....
One would think they would employ with some nous - ie that they would carefully word their standard contract to suit themselves.
But I've seen some appalling mess-ups by solicitors forgawdsake and been astonished at just how badly worded and/or generally incompetent someone at that level can be sometimes - as I really would have thought holding down a career like that and being paid the sort of money they are would mean they would get things right. Errrr...nope....not necessarily....0
