What's the best unbranded dog food?

Lots of people ignorantly think its a different food, I find it worrying that an owner wouldn't even look at the ingredients and nutritional content of their animals food!!! Apparently a level 7 qualification doesn't enlighten some people to this basic fact.
Exactly! And I'd take the level 7 qualification with a pinch of salt as I'm not aware of any courses outside of the veterinary profession which teach to that level. And a course containing content or a module taken from a level 7 course does not then make you qualified to Masters degree standard lol
Huskyrunner, is there any reason you don't have both dogs on raw? Or have I misunderstood?
Love the comment about poo watching, it's the best way to check the health of your dog especially when raw fed. I always know when mine has had too much bone or liver and compensate accordingly. People are often shocked at how small his poos are for a GSD compared to the bright orange logs produced by dogs fed on crap lol0 -

No you have not misunderstood our guys get 1 raw feed 1 kibble
what we do is meal one our guys get
250 g mince
tiny bit lamb heart
tiny bit liver
then two whole sardines
every other day i give them bones
meal 2 they get 100g arden grange performance.
re why i dont total raw feed its basically money wise i cant justify running an extra chest freezer too store it. I have 6 dogs thats 1.5 too 2kg raw a day my guys go through.
i will pop some pics of my dogs up later
ha ha re the poo comment a vet told me that when we started raw feeding ie too much bone it will be like chalk pellets , our vet also said if you think about it what ever your body doesnt need it excretes its no different for a dog. So yes you maybe paying 20 quid for 15 kg bag of food but how much of that is cereals maize etc would you eat constantly ground up cereal in brown fatty goodebts 16550

Ahhh yes, in that case I fully understand. I've got just the one GSD at the moment, totally raw fed and he gets through 1.5kg a day alone! He has two chest freezers all to himself :rotfl:
To help keep costs down, he's fond of eat whole rabbits which are becoming plentiful this time of year, plus green tripe which I can source locally for £1/kg. He's not keen on minced food so I buy in various chunked meat/poultry, hearts, liver, offal, bones etc and DIY.
I'm not a stickler for weighing stuff out and balancing his diet daily but it usually works out a rough 80/10/5/5 over the course of the month.
Do you run your dogs? Just going by your username which is a pretty big clue lol0 -
