As I mentioned many posts ago on one of the many similar threads to this one, only the EFTA states individually agree to new members joining the EEA. The EU states are meant to do the same in theory but in practice it's decided collectively, often by simple majority.

For example, to the best of my knowledge, Croatia has now been a full member of the EEA for some time and lots of states haven't ratified it yet. Including Spain (and the UK).

There seems to be no problem with this at all.

    So, Slam Dunk it is.

Kosovo also has an agreement and Spain doesn't even recognise them as an independent country.
What about the prospect of a ‘Spanish veto’ over Scotland joining the EEA? Here we have actual evidence to suggest that it’s not very likely. For the EU has recently concluded an association agreement with Kosovo – despite Spain (and four other Member States) refusing to recognise the independence of that country after its unilateral declaration of independence. (Note: the EEA is also an association agreement, and Member States have a veto over the initial conclusion of such treaties).

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

To all in Scotland you have my deepest sympathy. One referendum was enough for me - 3 most be bloody unbearable.

Not knowing what currency you are going to use, how you are going to finance yourselves. Such stress.

All this must have an effect on people's health. Life is way too short.

The fact is even someone like me ( a solid Yes voter ) would answer no to a vote before Brexit terms known. Not least because I think the longer Brexit plays out the better chance Yes would have of winning. It's been skewing the narratives around this question recently. Now that there's one on the horizon and not hypothetical anymore numbers as above are changing.

You've changed your tune (again), I could sift through the thread and pick out the posts where you've advocated for the referendum prior to Scots knowing the deal, I was arguing against you saying it would be fairer for Scots to know what they're voting for.

Why do your indy opinions change so often and dramatically? Where is your critical thinking and conviction?

I'm hoping Full Fact are fully involved in the debate, just to keep some sanity if nothing else as reading social media/this forum is just a bunch of people reinforcing their own opinions which is boring

I think we've forgotten what it is like to be in election mode! Great for political anoraks or those who don't care one way or another, but I have to protect myself a bit this time round. People might scoff at this but losing the referendum felt like a bereavement to me, nowhere near as crushing as losing my parents and brother in the few years before, but still pretty awful.

Looks like Nicola will have to wait a while.
David Mundell told the Herald newspaper: “It would be impossible for people in the timescale suggested by Nicola Sturgeon to make a reasoned view and, therefore, have a legal, fair and decisive referendum as we did in 2014 on the basis of the facts as they would be aware of them at that point.
“If you are saying you want the referendum because of Brexit, then you have to know what the arrangement is that the UK has secured in relation to leaving the EU and how that has been delivered and, of course, you need to know what the SNP alternative to that proposal is.”

Maybe they can spend the time reducing their deficit - or would that be too much to ask?

They can do it for the EU but not for RUK - what sort of abusive take the !!!! relationship is this?

I'm not scoffing at all ... I feel the same way, I don't think I will be campaigning this time round either,
