  • Oh Izadora, I remember that feeling well. Keep on keeping on, it's all you can do.

I used to play the cello. With enjoyment, but very little talent. Each cello is different, you get used to the feel of one, I was once gloriously allowed to play my teacher's valuable concert cello, what a privilege.

I knew I was never going to make any notable progress with the instrument when my boyfriend popped in one evening while I was practicing. He took my unfamiliar cello, perched on the arm of the sofa (you usually have to have a certain height of chair), and, despite not having played for over 2 years, played Air on a G string string beautifully. Some of us have it, some of us don't.

At least when I gave it up I did not have to struggle with a case nearly as tall as me, plus bags etc. In any future version of my life, I will opt for something much more portable, like a piccolo!
Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.

    elsien,

As a working professional and sufferer, I detest EUPD. There is no way I can disclose that disorder.

I use Borderline. I won't disclose that either.

There is no way that I would disclose because it would freak people out if they google it.

If I ever won a significant amount of money on the lottery, I will pay a branding company to rebrand it on the basis that recovery/management is a damn sight easier if one is not so ashamed of having something that isn't one's fault anyway.

I am a tad melancholy today, veering on the edges of panic. I unexpectedly felt like sobbing when the olympians got off the plane earlier and I have no idea why. I am also dreaming loads. Not bad dreams particularly but a lot of stuff from the past coming up. I am sure that is something to do with skipping the meds.

I have taken a tablet now so should be a lot better tomorrow.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Glad Littlewing is on the mend WW :)

I have a question for the muscial amongst you - would trying to learn a muscial instrument (piano specifically) be a silly idea for an adult? There was no way we'd have had one at home growing up so I ended up doing the clarinet for a few years until pressure of homework got too much. Nowadays electronics has the solution to needing a huge heavy thing that goes out of tune all the time in the house and it's something I've been thinking about on and off for many years, but have never quite made the leap.

Would only be for me, I wouldn't want to perform to others. That would be way too scary .
Oooh, Ono! No way is it silly! Especially if you already read music!

Look, if you can drive a car, a manual, you are coordinating eyes, hands and feet, so you'd be ok with the piano!

    Go go go go!

It's good for the brain, too! :T

Reinforced here - excellent for the brain! The ONLY disadvantage to an able bodied adult learning music is that they tend to get frustrated with speed of progress. A tiny child is delighted to make any sound on the piano, whereas an adult has an internal sound world of what they want to hear. If you just follow the instructions and practise, people will be amazed by your progress (even if you're not, IYSWIM!)

  • I have plenty of experience with frustration at the speed of progress, I've been learning Italian for six years now and still mess up my verb conjugations and articles (won't mention object pronouns at all) :o

Re. BPD/EUPD, I did wonder recently if that was the reason for some of my traits, so I've been looking into it.

(I don't fit all the criteria, though, so don't know. Is there a spectrum for it?)

Anyway, I never really understood the term Borderline P.D., and it doesn't, to my mind, convey any info at all as to what the problem is.

However, I loathe and detest the term Emotionally Unstable P.D. It sounds as though I'd be likely to go off on one at the drop of a hat, have hysterics at the slightest thing, etc. etc.
it's a dreadful term, IMHO, and I think it conveys the wrong info entirely!

WaS the three giant triffid piles are wilting down and going brown. The recycling bin only comes once a fortnight, and is full, as are two other gardening bags, in addition to the piles of triffids, but I haven't made many inroads into the bindweed yet.

I left two to grow into the spikes next year, if they survive the winter, which they probably will unless it's unusually harsh.

Lambyr, my "See!" was just to show you that you are appreciated! :A

WW, thank you for your response. And I hope you feel on a more even keel soon.
Pyxix, that was my reaction to the EUPD label which is why I thought I was missing something when it was suggested as a better alternative.

An interesting fact, courtesy of the OCD Action website. (I'm disappointed that this doesn't seem to have made the Mind website yet!) https://www.ocdaction.org.uk

Since April 2014, if you live in England, you have had the right to choose the consultant-led outpatient mental health service your GP refers you to. This service can be anywhere in England and this right means that the same rules apply for mental health services as for physical health treatment.

We have been supporting people to exercise that right since the change in the law, but things have been far from straightforward. Last month NHS improvement produced the following guidance which makes things much clearer and we hope easier for people to really chosse the service they're referred to:

    https://improvement.nhs.uk/uploads/documents/choice_in_mh_services_service_users.pdf

..... It only applies to adults in England who are not currently receiving treatment from a CMHT and it does not apply to crisis, acute/emergency or inpatient services. You can only choose 1 type of service at a time. With an IAPT service, the referral must be made from a GP and not be a self-referral.

    (more on the OCD website).

Hope this is useful to some people xxxx
