Diet penguin
Decided that from tomorrow I'll be doing the 5:2 diet, and D said he would be joining me. I just hope we can both stick at it.
I've never dieted in my life before, I never thought I would need to as I was always so thin. But, the way I'm looking at it is that rather than it being a diet, it's more a lifestyle choice. I read an interesting article about how taking in restricted calories is good for you in so many more ways than just weight loss.
Question for those who do/have done the 5:2 - can you change your starve days? I don't mean all the time, but just if you need to for some reason.

Yes, Georgie! You can change the fast days. Have you read the book? It's much easier if you read the book first.
In fact it makes sense to, if you're going out to special events, etc.
The only thing to remember is that the two fast days shouldn't be consecutive. Just as well!
Also, the 24 hour fast day can start at any point in the day.
Penguin The beauty of it is knowing that however hungry you get, you won't be hungry the next day because you can eat normally. End penguin
Also remember that like with any new regime, the first week is the worst. Good luck!(I just lurve spiders!)

My son has four rats as pets (I call them my grand-rats). They are so intelligent.

Good morning all! Mostly good news! After leaving Monty a tablespoon of peanut butter which he ate all of we managed to herd him with the help of various implements towards the toilet and he found his way back down the hole! So Monty has returned home with full tummy and WaSp is off to get something including wire netting apparently, to fill the hole as soon as the shops open. He will do it as soon as he gets home.
I hope Monty has a long and happy life with a big family (not in my bathroom!). Am I allowed to be a tiny bit sad?Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Yes you are, WaS.
Several years ago I found an injured sparrow in the garden, and with the help and advice from the Vet, I kept it in an old cage for 6weeks until it was deemed fit enough to go to a local sanctuary for rehab!
I had grown very fond of it.
It was funny, 'cos at one point I felt it was depressed, so I put its cage out in the garden, and when it saw the other birds, it really perked up!
I had a little cry when I gave it up to the sanctuary.
I phoned them a week later, and they said that it was in the aviary enjoying the company of other birds!
(The reason I kept it so long, on the advice of the Vet, was because it wasn't quite right. It had seemed a bit brain-damaged. When she told me how long I'd have to look after it for, I was a bit appalled, but knew I had to do it!)(I just lurve spiders!)

It's very sad Georgie. My dad has always been i intelligent and quick witted and we used to debate politics and wind each other up. We didn't get on well when I was younger because I was never his favourite but we sorted it out a couple of years ago. Now everytime I talk to him he offers endless cups of tea (I don't drink tea) and asks if I'm going on holiday. It's like being at the hairdresser and my dad is just...gone. Sometimes you see glimpses and that's really hard because then I remember who he used to be. And it's been so fast. 6 years ago he was capable of running. Its only been in the last 2-3 years. The psychiatrist says he hasn't got dementia (I'm not sure I agree with that) but a series of tias has definitely damaged his brain and he's in his 80s so it's only going to get worse.
Glad monty is safely on his way WaS. Just hope he lets WaSP seal the hole before telling his rat friends about the the nice human who gave him food.
Pyxis - it's very hard not to get attached to things when you look after them.
Penguin reply to Georgie Good luck with the 5:2. I kind of liked the fast days - it was a challenge to use the 500 calories wisely. I can't do i it anymore because of medication issues but it wasn't terribly hard after the first couple of days. I usually saved the calories for dinner - 1/2 can of heinz minestrone soup is something like 69 calories and you can have loads of salad.
I am getting back on the wagon myself today. Restricting sweets and crisps. I honestly think I have a problem with crisps. I actively crave them. end penguin
Pyxis - I tried the micropore tape last night but ended up taking it off because I couldn't sleep and was getting frustrated. I'll try again when I'm more tired.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -

Hugs code, I understand this completely, it's what talking to my gran was like in the last few years before she had to go into care, any phone call and I'd get asked if I was going on holiday about five times and yes the endless offers of cups of tea if I visited (I do drink a lot of tea, but don't need cups queued up).
The rest is about death so is penguined
It's like she stopped being my gran some years before she died, and if I'm completely honest I had already mentally said my goodbyes sometime before her eventual death (that probably sounds really horrible, but it's the only way I can put it into words). When that came it was more of a release, both for her as she had no quality of life, and for the rest of us from watching her do no more than exist.
