I can see why they might want to wait til the end of the day and do it all at once although how miserable a job that would be!
The crematorium I went to, City of London, was so busy, I can't imagine they would want to wait til the end of the day, because there would be such a backlog. But of course I don't know v much about how such things are organised.
One cremation I went to was definitely done straight after the service. I witnessed it, i.e., the coffin was placed into the cremation chamber, and I saw them flick a switch etc and then I stopped watching as there wasn't really anything to see ... This was a ceremony for a Hindu and a witness was required for Hinduism. Maybe they wait til the end of the day for others, no idea.
The early morning slots are defo cheaper, I noticed this when I had to arrange a funeral. Weekends are v expensive, I recall. (City of London Crematorium, may be different elsewhere.)0 -
On my mum's 89th birthday, she announced that next year, she would either die, and there would be a funeral, or she would celebrate her 90th birthday with a service of thanksgiving and a tea party.
She had the service and tea party she wanted and it was a lovely opportunity for her to meet up with people who mattered to her, not just relatives but friends she had known for years.
I wish more people would do this.
Two years later we also had a funeral service, and just close family stayed for a meal. Nothing very elaborate but a lovely send off.0 -

I don't think this is the case everywhere.

"Does the cremation take place immediately or are the coffins stored up until a number are ready to be cremated?
Where possible the cremation will follow immediately after the service. The Code of Cremation Practice, which is adhered to by the members of the Federation of British Cremation Authorities, requires that the cremation shall take place on the same day as the cremation service."0 -
I certainly would & I'd respect the wishes of anyone else to do so too. They make an absolute killing (no pun intended) on funerals. Funerals are horrible things!
After watching a programme on TV about body donation I've bequeathed mine for anatomical examination.0 -

I didn't say they weren't cremated the same day, because they most certainly are (unless mechanical problems prevent it), but that they aren't generally done immediately after the service.
Apart from anything else, a bank of cremators require a lot of staff (not only to load them, but to isolate and process each set of remains), and make a considerable amount of noise, while running.0 -

As I said, obviously not everywhere.0 -

The service offered the article uses one crem in the midlands they must have done a deal.
They also say fat people more money.
They are also not a lot cheaper than the cheap basic offering by some FD in the cheaper areas.
If going basic price up local crem and use your own transport.
Just check some require coffin so cannot use the cheaper shrouded option.0 -

It's logistically impossible to cremate all bodies straight after the service. It takes 1-3 hours to burn a body, services are every 20 mins, quite often there is a post-cremation group outside, a service going on in the 'chapel' and a party waiting to go in. Even with several chambers running no way is there time to cremate all the bodies and allow for the chambers to cool enough to be swept before the next one is ready to go,Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

It doesn't say that it does.
It says that the bodies are not stored up and done "after hours" like you said - cremations are going on all day.
The Code of Practice says "the coffin and its contents shall be put into the cremator, as soon as practicable".0
