If any of you could actually provide a link backing up the information you're giving, it would certainly help your argument, as arguing over what's high or low voltage isn't getting them anywhere...0

I could provide as many links as you like, but I can't understand why people wouldn't realise that an Electrician is much better qualified to state what the voltage bands are than gas installers and DIYers! If any of you could actually provide a link backing up the information you're giving, it would certainly help your argument, as arguing over what's high or low voltage isn't getting them anywhere...0 -
I am the Principal Duty Holder and Qualified Certifier of a RECI Registered Electrical Contractor, and Principal Duty Holder and Qualified Supervisor of an NICEIC Approved Contractor. I am also JIB graded as an Approved Electrician and a Technician Member of the IET and a SparkSafe Licence to Practice Qualified Electrician licnce-holder. So I feel I am in a good position to state what the definitions of the voltage bands are.
My, my.
What a big willy you are waving there.
Please explain why anyone on an anonymous forum should believe you.0 -

They are correct in saying 400v is classified as low voltage. But I don't know of anyone, apart from sparks, that classify things this way.
This is a not a professional forum so willy waving and telling us we are all wrong when we consider mains and 3-phase mains as high voltage helps nobody...unless we fancy training to be a sparky.0 -
In my house 240v (or 230 if you want to be a pedantic a*s-hat) is the highest voltage I will come into contact (not literally) with...therefore it is high voltage.
Context matters for most people where electricity is concerned.0 -
Are you actually trying to argue you weren't being unnecessarily pedantic in this post?
Have a think about it for a second - you quoted me saying "12V low voltage" and "240V mains voltage". Even if they were subjective and/or using incorrect terminology outside of an electrician's forum, the fact I qualified them with absolutes (i.e. 12V and 240V) means your "corrections" make even less sense. How did they contribute to helping the OP?
Doesn't matter which way you spin it, your reply - whilst probably factually correct, came across as being sanctimonious.0 -
No. My reply was very clear that the OP should involve an Electrician (and in a rented property this really is the duty of the landlord).0

No, no, I mean why should anyone believe all this bullshine you have spouted:Because if they bother to research it they will discover that the voltage bands are defined as I have said and not in any other way - and certainly not in the way the alleged gas man has claimed.I am the Principal Duty Holder and Qualified Certifier of a RECI Registered Electrical Contractor, and Principal Duty Holder and Qualified Supervisor of an NICEIC Approved Contractor.
