Absolute rubbish. Not one of those things you have written is correct.
12/24V is Extra-Low Voltage.
230V (not 240V) is Low Voltage.
400V (not 415V) is also Low Voltage.0 -
Yet your average person on these forums and in real life would consider what southcoast says true, despite what they may be labelled in your world!0

Does "your world" equates to 'competent electricians', or the industry in general?
Your average person thinks that sushi is raw fish; that doesn't mean they're correct.0 -
I'm backing up someone who's being jumped on for correcting ignorant posters.
The other posters are simply trying to be helpful and are not ignorant. The voltage band name is irrelevant to this problem and only a petty, pedantic, prat would argue about this, as it certainly is not helpful to any layman asking for help on here.
Many tradesmen/women do post helpful advice on here without talking industry jargon and talking down to posters.
I really don't know why certain posters like you and Risteard bother to snipe and derail threads on here, where people are requesting help to avoid getting ripped off.
How many electricians does it take to change a light bulb!

The obvious answer is none, because it's a lamp. How many electricians does it take to change a light bulb!
And I did help the OP - my first post pointed out that whilst another poster had incorrectly referred to "low voltage" when they meant ELV the sensible response to the original question was to contact a competent Electrician.0 -

No, you're absolutely correct. SouthCoastRGI is a complete ignoramus, which is why he's one of the stalwarts on this forum ( check the post and "thanked" counts ) and consistently gives helpful advice. I have no idea of his ( or her ) qualifications, but if the username is anything to go by he knows what he's talking about ( yes, I know, gas, electricity, but any decent tradesman knows a bit about other trades that he's not directly involved with ).
400V is low voltage ? Let me put 400V through you, and you tell me if it hurts.0 -

Why do you feel that a Registered Gas Installer is qualified to talk about electricity?
I am the Principal Duty Holder and Qualified Certifier of a RECI Registered Electrical Contractor, and Principal Duty Holder and Qualified Supervisor of an NICEIC Approved Contractor. I am also JIB graded as an Approved Electrician and a Technician Member of the IET and a SparkSafe Licence to Practice Qualified Electrician licnce-holder. So I feel I am in a good position to state what the definitions of the voltage bands are.Ebe_Scrooge wrote:400V is low voltage ? Let me put 400V through you, and you tell me if it hurts.
Why do you equate something being "Low Voltage" with meaning it is safe to lick the energised conductors?0
