  • Good morning everyone,

A very much belated happy new year chums and I hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

I very much deliberately switched off for those 2 weeks. From pretty much everything. I spent the fortnight back up in Scotland, which resulted in lots of catch ups with friends and family - lunches, dinners, drinks, parties etc. Whilst it's lovely to see so many people, my liver, waistline and wallet doesn't thank me. Kind of glad to get back into a routine again.

My sleep cycle is still in holiday mode, which meant I couldn't nod off till closer to midnight last night, making my 5am alarm unwelcomed. Opted to turn it off and try to get a few more hours instead. I'll go to the gym after work followed by some yoga, which I'm really looking forward to. More to follow.

Yay Speky, good to see you back and glad to hear you had a good Christmas in beautiful Scotland :)
  • Good morning everyone,

Dark, cold, dreary morning. Nonetheless, I got up at 5am for what is probably my final facetime call to my step-bro in South Korea as he due to come home next week! He's coming with his daughter but not his wife, as our immigration laws are so tight that she needs to wait another 6 months - at least. So it's mostly good news I suppose.

I went to the gym this morning as I went yesterday after work and I've never seen it so busy. It was off putting it was that busy actually. It'll die down in the coming few weeks. I also had yoga last night for the first time in 2 or 3 weeks which was very difficult but all the more rewarding at the end.

I don't have many plans for tonight, which is the first for a few weeks, so I think I'll make the most of it. Beef broccoli stir fry for dinner.

And I forgot to update you about the girl had some dates with. I saw her again on Sunday night, which was the only time which suited us both despite it being a school night. It was her turn to come through to me so she got the train, we had a couple of drinks and went to a local Italian which was nice. Her last train was at 9.30 and when we got there, it had been cancelled! So I shipped her off in an Uber that came to £58 but she sent me the money for it despite me offering to split it. Anyway, that was date number 3 and I'm still trying to figure out how I feel, I'm thinking we should go do some sort of activity thing, like mini golf or something like that, a bit more informal. To be continued...

    Happy New Year Speky
One way and another, but most because SIL is a travel agent and I got to go with her and some family on a jolly, I spent time in and around Manchester in the last few weeks - we went to these places, and one of them might fit the activities date idea.

Speky, re the gym, I much prefer exercising at home and the crowding especially at this time of year is one of the reasons! Glad to hear your date went well. :)
  • Joey - Thanks for the suggestions. I've not been to any of them so I'll check them out, thank you! Hope you're well.
Cathybird - I hate the crowds, I really do, but I kind of need the equipment the gym has and the little distraction that is there too.

    Good morning!

Left work feeling shattered but deep down I'm still fuelled and motivated with the new years determination to undo the inevitable damage done by gorging over Christmas, so I went a little 3 mile run. Home to make a healthy dinner, watch the footie and hit the hay.

Gym again this morning although getting out of bed was a struggle. Wednesday signals yoga at lunch and I might, just might, go a short run after work again, depending on how I feel. I've agreed to play the xbox with the boys for a bit.

Late to the party, but i'm going to finish planning my new year resolutions at some point today, as well as tick off a few things on my to-do list, so hoping for a productive day.

I'm also watching this USA vs Iran malarkey closely, given my recruitment process into The Reserves. My medical is at the end of the month, which should hopefully provide enough time to figure out what the hell is going on. My mum phoned to remind me of the talks of WWIII and that she hopes this will mean my common sense will prevail.
  • Good morning,

Yoga at lunch yesterday was good, but hard. Clearly still a bit rusty from taking a couple of weeks off. Left work relatively sharpish and made a nice healthy dinner. I was planning on going a run but a previous colleague alerted me to some job roles that have popped up that are suited to me, so I set about investigating them instead before joining some of the boys on the xbox for a bit.

Gym again this morning which I'm pleased about. Football training tonight, which will probably be tough given it's the first one back after the break. Also got my weekly catch up with my gran and I'll fill my remaining time applying to some of these jobs I seen.
  • Good morning and happy Friday everyone,

I stayed late in work last night, till about 7.30pm to finish off bits of and bobs. I got home to have my catch up with my gran which was nice, she's got the cold but is managing ok and is high spirits. I also applied for a couple of jobs that I was alerted to, with a long and drawn out application process. I've seen a few others I quite fancy so that'll be my task tonight/over the weekend. I had just enough time for my beef and broccoli stir fry before going to football. Was in bed for 10.30 but can recall still being awake an hour later.

Forced myself to the gym this morning, making it every morning before work this week. This used to be my norm when I would go with my mate but as I don't have a gym buddy, the onus is on me and sometimes my need for an extra couple of hours kip comes out on top. Anyway, this is a habit I hope to continue with for 2020.

I don't have terribly much planned for the weekend, which is absolutely fine by me. The only exception is date #4 with the girl from Chester. She's a bit poorly at the moment and so I think we're just having a night in at hers with some food on Sunday night. I suppose I am looking forward to it, more so as I'm looking to feel certain in my feelings. It may not be her that causing the hesitation per se, but more that I've been single for so long that that I need to adjust. We'll see.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

Speky, re the gym, it's a fantastic habit but you need your sleep too, so hope you don't feel you're doing the wrong thing by getting the odd extra couple of hours of kip. Good luck with the job applications too and hope your quiet weekend is a good one :)
  • Cathybird - I need my sleep, I do. But I can survive the week providing I've had at least 1 or 2 long (9 hours) sleep a week, usually at the weekend. Otherwise, I'm a zombie.

    Good morning,

I hope everyone had a good weekend.

My weekend was very quiet actually, with all evenings being sat chilled out on the couch. During the day was much of the usual; gym, yoga, supermarket, tidying up etc. I was meant to have another date on Sunday night but unfortunately she spent some time in hospital over the weekend with stomach issues, so that's been postponed.

The upside to that is that I didn't spend anything that wasn't necessary, grabbing another 2 NSD's. I also finished applying for a couple of other jobs that I liked the look of too. January always seems to be a good time to job hunt.

Been to the gym this morning and I'll go to yoga tonight, too. I had my last face time call with my step-bro in South Korea as he leaves to come back to the UK tomorrow, we're all glad to have him back. I've also got a catch up call with my step-dad tonight, to no doubt talk through the job stuff. He's always a good soundboard for that sort of thing.

Right, must get on with it.
