I'm not going to be drawn into a debate about this.
If you live in the same household as someone who already has a contract with Virgin (or Sky), the terms of that contract forbid anyone living in that household from pretending to be a new customer as you suggest.
I am not saying no one has ever done this and succeeded in getting the new customer deals and equipment, but it's in no way comparable to honestly switching Bank, energy supplier or even broadband provider.0 -

The bank account you were happy for someone to get the bonus from will have something in the contract saying you must us it as your main bank account, and there is advice here on how to get around that by transferring the minimum number of Direct Debits and setting up standing orders from your actual main account.

Good - well now that's settled, back to the matter at hand...
toonceltic - A lot of good suggestions here.
This is what I would do:- Go for retention deals
- Look at what Sky/BT can offer instead
- Continue with your plan to cancel and apply under your name
My only real problem with option 3 is that you might end up with duplicate kit which you don't need which will be a hassle to sell, or if you don't sell, is a bit wasteful. (but on the flip side spare kit in case something breaks)
If you feel you are a new customer because it was your SO's contract before I say go for it! If they ask about your living situation directly(I can't think why they would), then I will leave that up to your moral compass.
I have been lied to on several occasions by Virgin Media representatives so my moral compass in that situation might have some justifiable interference.0 -
