A word of caution to anyone considering getting a car on one of these schemes peugeot/ citroen . Having recently made some enquiries for my son, age 20 to try and find him a new car with waranty, breakdown, future servicing and insurance , at what seemed a low monthly cost. We made some extra enquires about what may happen if say during the 3 yr lease he was to say get 3 points on his licence for speeding, during the term of the 36mt agreement . To be told by the adviser that the insurance would be cancelled , but still charged for the full 36mths or the remainder of the lease

Sounds reasonable to me. Why would you expect an insurer to continue to insure someone who has proven to be incapable of driving properly? I have driven for years and never had points on my licence. Criminals should be expected to pay a penalty.0

If are are really that concerned that your son will speed then either don't help him lease a car or get a black box fitted through the insurance.0

I think that's part of the problem, he wants a car with free insurance through Peugeot.0 -
Parents funding kids to drive, it can only end badly.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

As the deal is likely heavily subsidised why shouldn't there be fairly strict T&C attached?
The price of the lease is likely to be roughly the same price as some young drivers Insurance premium on a 10yr old Corsa.
If you want to benefit from something you have to toe the line.
Isn't it good that they are at least trying to incentivise younger drivers into not speeding or driving badly or recklessly?
Nothing to stop you from refusing the Insurance Cover though and finding your own from day 1 if you don't like the T&C as set out in the contract.0 -
Ok. Firstly it's not a parent funding a car for there son, he's the one who would of been paying. Just wanted to possibly show him the cheapest option to be able to get a reliable new , safe car , so he would be able to get to his full time work some 20miles away. Secondly anybody these days can not say they're not likely to possible get speeding points, I've been driving for over 35yrs, some proffesionaly. But if your in a unfamiliar area it's easily done. And yes there is the option to lease without insurance. But I think the fact that the insurance part of the agreement £75pm would still need to be paid for the full 36mth term even if after week 1 you got a speeding fine, is being kept in a dark cupboard , unless you specifically ask the question you wouldn't know, is a bit of a con0

Somebody needs to get off his extremely high, moral horse.
To be fair , I just think this is the way mse is going.
Just seems to always be negative and unhelpful comments these days.
My origanal post was simply to point out some of the down points about this type of sceme , that the dealer won't tell you unless you ask0 -
You're right, I have no points, but it is very easy to get three points without being a dangerous or speeding driver.
The fact that such a minor mistake can leave you without insurance, while still paying for the insurance part of the lease and having to buy extra insurance is a con.
A more reasonable policy would be a penalty which increases the cost of the lease by a set amount.0 -

Is it? I've driven getting on for half a million miles (an average of around 15k per year for thirty years) and I have received precisely one three point speeding penalty, and that not through unfamiliarity but through perfectly conscious risk-taking: I was driving at 90 on a deserted motorway I used every day, in bright sunshine, and when the nice police car cruised up behind me it didn't occur to me that he would be so churlish as to stop me. He booked me for 85, which was nice of him, and bluntly either 90 in a brand new car with modern tyres, brakes and suspension on an empty road is safe, or 70 in an elderly Sierra in the dusk when it's raining is suicidal, so I can't say I feel any great moral pain beyond "don't get caught next time" nor any great offence at being stopped.
Otherwise, avoiding being nicked is hardly difficult. There are prominent signs to tell you when you can go faster than 30 (streetlights) or 60 (non-streetlights), and if you stick to that rule you won't even get into the "I thought it was a dual carriageway" debate. There are big signs to tell you about cameras, and you shouldn't be speeding anyway.0
