If you use another email app do you get the notifications? You don't need to use the gmail app to collect gmail.

but as far as i know you do need the gmail app if you wish to use push rather than pull.

But if the app/phone isn't working it's irreverent.

Just install another app and set the refresh to as short at time as it'll allow and wait for the issue to be resolved.

If you don't know an emails arrived for 10 minutes does it really matter?

The point is, as you'll see if you read some examples in the thread I linked to, that it can be many hours before a notification appears, if it does at all, and such a delay could have serious consequences.

    Yes, it's the M icon.

Hotmail is my main. I have a GMAIL set as a primary account. I get slow or non-existant updates from BOTH.

And sometimes certain apps, eg dating apps. I get slow updates if someone has messaged or no updates.

It is really poor. I use email for work and need INSTANT updates due to being self-emplyed. I can't keep opening CHROME on my phone and hitting REFRESH.

And WHY is 15minutes the SHORTEST sync option?

All round TERRIBLE software/phone fucntioning for £350 compared to my SAMSUNG NOTE 3 GALAXY.

    My phone AUTO UPDATES.

So which BETTER email apps should I use? I thought I had to use the crapy M one?

I use the standard Email app on my Galaxy S4, even for Gmail.

I have about 12 email addressed stored into it and it just works. The Gmail one told me it was insecure whilst i tried to send an email whilst on holiday, never used it again and it still tries to send that same email when i restart the phone now, but i deleted it so it cannot.

Needs a factory reset, i did think about a reset and root it and remove the vodafone bloatware installed. I use Life mobile now.

Gmail is push, 15mins is not the shortest option.
What version of the gmail app are you running?

Have you been into the play store and updated gmail?

Hotmail is being pulled to gmail and not pushed ... have you tried the outlook app? That is as quick as pulling them as a second account in the gmail app.

As above - you've got a settings problem, not an app problem. The GMail app (the red 'M') is actually very good, and perfectly capable of instant notifications - 'push' - I've got it now. Have a look through the main settings in your phone, especially under 'power' and all the wireless settings, including 3G/4G - if your phone is trying to save power, it might not be allowing the GMail app to communicate enough.

Thanks guys I'll try answer what I can.

Heard of pull and push but don't exactly know how they work.

    I'm in version 6.0.115979076.

There seems to be no update in play store so guess it's the latest one.

In the hot mail account settings I can see 15 min sync frequency as shortest one.

Notifications when email arrives is ON

I can't see any other settings that I need to adjust. Can anyone tell me please?..

I downloaded outlook app just now... Chose outlook as account type (is that corect and not IMAP, exchange etc). When I clicked yes to all the settings. It said authenticating with outlook unable to process ....EDIT it seems to have installed correctly finally.

Shall I use outlook app for hotmail or any amendment I can do on Gmail? What settings shall I put on outlook app and shall I delete my hotmail ACC from Gmail app?

    Outlook is hotmail.
Just figured that you could test that as it is your main email system anyway. Hopefully that should work for you hotmail emails and instant notifications. Then you can trouble shoot your gmail account whilst still having working email.
