The gap above the door linning can be infilled and plastered before architrave is fitted

Unless the architraves cover all of that new plastered gyproc infill then the it will always crack when painted and will always show. Its whether or not they can buy architraves wide enough to cover the c0ck up.

Personally I wouldn't be happy with a bodge up on a new extension and I would be thinking if they get basic stuff like door linings wrong then what else have they bodged/ altered.

It may well be they are decent builders but poor at carpentry.

Just need to make sure it's done so it won't keep cracking.

It should not crack If scrim tape is used on the join and the board is nogged out well, you are only going to see the join at the top,the rest will be covered by architrave

    Sorry,I should clarify,the builder has done a brilliant job.Things like electrics,carpentry,painting,plumbing,anything else,he has a team for.It was his carpenter.

With everything else going so perfectly, and being so close to being ready to move back in,it is disappointing to find this has been a bodge-up.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just supply taller doors?Do doors come in assorted sizes?

Don't worry to much ,generally the work looks very tidy. What they have done is not the end of the world ,it can be sorted very easy .Infills will not crack if done right.

It looks like the builder has set out for 1 size door and the doors are of a different size (depends who spec'd ordered them for who the !!!! up lies with). The frame has then been adjusted to suit.

What age house is it? If you have wide architrave in the rest of the house (Victorian/Edwardian house for instance) it'll all be hidden, if not then it'll need to be sorted properly.

The works look neat and tidy so I wouldn't worry about it being an out-and-out bodge.

Talk to the builder and see what he says as there may be a genuine reason for it. It does appear as though there has been a mistake and rather than sort it, they've worked around it.
