Think I may have worked out what he's done if its a new lining and all the doors are the same.

If you look at the left hand edge of the door (hinge side) and follow that line up past the top of the door it looks like the lining where the gap is is wider than the door so I think he may have fitted a lining for a 6'8" high door x 2'8" wide door. Then ordered the wrong doors and packed out the lining each side and the top so he could fit a 6'6" high x 2'6" wide doors.

OP Can you measure the width of the gap above the door and measure the height from the floor to the top of the gap above the door? If the width measure 32" and the height measures around 80" (possibly a bit more) then he has set out the linings for 6'8" x 2'8" doors.

Well its a bodge up so its either new linings the correct size and re fit the doors or fit extra wide architraves to cover the gap. You can get stardard architraves that are 44mm ,57 and 69mm wide so the widest ones may work and cover the gap.

Is it on all 4 doors?

Well,I can't tell if it was on all 4 doors, but one has been fixed up,or if it is only on 3.Sorry to sound silly.

I know the photo is sideways, but there are 3 doors left as per original photo, and 1 door (above),seems to have been "filled in",and has no gap.

OP was the room plastered before the door lining was fitted?. I've just looked at the RAW image and then zoomed in and possibly looks like the door opening was plastered and then the door lining fitted and someone got their adding up wrong so the plastered opening height is 2" too tall.

I see what they have done.

They have set them all out for door frames and not door linings.

One door shows the frame (Left hand side of pic) and the other door has a door lining .Not sure why they have fitted one with a door lining and the other door fitted in a door frame.

Door linings are usual for internal doors and the timber is much thinner but wide whereas door frames are usually for external doors only and the timber use is thicker but not as wide as a lining.

Are both the doors in the pic the same height?

    Thank you ,leveller 2911

The room was plastered before door lining was put it.

I don't understand, though: do you mean it will be "fixed" because he must be intending to "finish" the other 3 doors like the other one has been done.

Thank you everyone for your help x
