Just wanted to update you all on today. Everything went well. Handed the forms in swore on the bible, went to see the judge who was an absolute lovvely man. He first asked us if we had taken any advice on bankruptcy. We said we had, he then sazid to me, I hope you don't mind me asking but why do you have to use a wheelchair. I briefly told him what had happened with me, he told me his wife had also had 2 strokes and and she was also recovering. I had a brief conversation and he was so very nice, a real gentleman as well. He said there is no problem with the bankruptcy and agreed and signed and stamped it. He wished me all the best on my recovery and I thanked him probably a bit too much. I think he must have sensed how nervous I was on entering his room.
The clerk then went through the banktuptcy order, faxed it to the official reciever and then called her. My husband spoke first and we asked for him to speak on my behalf as well. We explained about the bank account. They had no problem whatsoever with us keeping our bank account with nationwide, but, they said we would like to see first if nationwide are happy for you to keep your account. They advised us to go to the branch in person and ask if it would be okay to keep the account now we are bankrupt, and I'm pleased to say that they said there is no problem at all.
We now just have too wait for the OR to contact us again to go through the next stages.
What is the next stage for us exactly? what I mean is, what would be the best thing for us to do now?
All in all it was a loong tiring day that has left me feeling relieved but shattered, I know deep in my heart that I cannot even start to recover from my stroke proper;y until this is all over, but I know we 100% did the right thing.
I want to thank you for all the help you have all given me, your positive responses have kept me going and made this a little easier. Without that I would be lost and alone. Thank you all.
I would like to keep this open and keep updating and hope someone just starting may take a look and see how it works and how it doesn't have to be so traumatic.
Thank you again x x x0 -
I'm glad that went well. :j
Plus that's good news about Nationwide as well.
The next stage (if things go as normal) is that you might get some forms through the post to sign. They are nothing to worry about if they come. Just ones to confirm that you know about your responsibilities being bankrupt and perhaps to request some info like statements etc.
If the OR needs to do an interview with you they will also probably contact you to arrange that. Again that sounds scary, but its not really. They will just want to get some more info on your circumstances and debts if they need it and make sure the picture they have is straight.
The most important bit now though is to relax. The worst bit is over really, and you now know that bit wasn't really bad.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

They asked me if I objected to swearing the oath on the bible, and I said YES!

So glad it went well for you Madeline.
All the judges seem to be lovely, not heard of a bad one yet.
As others have said, concentrate on getting well, and try to relax, you've done the right thing and now you can move on.
All the best xThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
Fab news Madeline!!!! You must feel so relieved about the BR AND your account being kept open.
