Letting agents not contacting us about return of deposit

Hi guys,
I have tried to search for the answer to this question but I have had no luck, so hopefully this won't be a repeat of another thread.
My partner moved out of his rented property on the 29th Feb. The checkout was carried out on the 1st of March and all is great apart from a couple of wear and tare comments like bulbs and a missing plate, nothing serious.
The rent has all been paid up to date and the keys were returned on time.
The letting agent/landlord still have the deposit.
I understand from reading on the CAB site and shelter that the deposit must be returned within 10 days of both him and the landlord agreeing on a figure to be returned, however, the problem here is, after chasing the letting agent, they still have not sent a figure to be discussed, never mind agreed upon.
Is there any way we can speed up the return of this information so we can get the deposit back asap.
Thanks for all your help.

Go to the place where the deposit is protected and ask for it back.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

@HappyMJ I was under the impression that the schemes that protect the deposit offer mediation when it's disputed, we haven't got that far yet, however, I will definitely look into it again, thanks!
@csgohan4 Fingers crossed this won't be the case! Letting agents are terrible, in my experience anyway!0 -
Assuming this is England or Wales then your partner should have the prescribed information for his deposit. He does not need to keep chasing up the letting agency he just needs to login to whichever scheme his deposit is registered with and claim it back.

They haven't returned it 10 days you can raise a dispute asking for the full amount to be returned to you without any deductions at all.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

The schemes offer arbitration when both parties cannot agree on the amount to be returned but that doesn't stop your partner from claiming his full deposit back now, especially since he isn't receiving any communication from the letting agency or landlord.
If you use the search function at the top of the board you will find numerous other threads on this topic and can see how other tenants fared.0 -

Hi,
I also had this problem in a previous flat I rented.
Firstly find out who is holding the deposit, it will be an external company and you should have a confirmation email with reference codes etc on.
Contact them and explain the situation, with proof of you trying to contact the landlord/estate agent, and give them contact details for them and they should then try to make contact and help resolve it for you
Good luck!!0 -

Thanks for this, I have looked at the link and section E option 3 looks like the one we need to do.
I suppose the deposit scheme will give them a nudge to get their act together.0 -
