    The tyre size is 195/45 r16 84v.

Here's the tyre in question. You can just about see it's worn and it does look a little flat as well?

If you drive with a heavy foot and a tyre that is badly under inflated you will overheat the tyre and wear it an awful lot faster than normal.

And the tyre pressure should be what? What was the pressure when you last checked it?

Tyres might 'look' flat, but that's hardly a reliable indicator compared to, well, I don't know... Maybe a tyre pressure gauge?

In my experince when a low profile tyre looks that flat it tends to be very flat, maybe as much as 10psi too low.

That kind of lazy ownership leads to extra cost.

I'd buy two new tyres for the back and put the best of the originals on the front. Assuming four new is out of the question.

It just seems like such a waste though. I measured the other tyres at 4mm+ tread. Why one the back?

I think I might just buy one new good tyre and then a couple months later buy the other tyres.

Yes, why buy two or more when you only need one?

The back is usually considered the best place for your new tyres

Your tyres can make a big difference to your safety so if you can afford it do it. You could always keep the 4mm tyre as a spare.

I'd do this, and you could get pretty decent tyres, fully fitted and balanced for around £60. I'm not sure where you were getting your £500 from OP.
