Bad news blindman
Even though she was sorely tempted, Mrs Cat said that the idea of 3 males (she actually said boys) argueing over who would be the first in the biplane, helicoptor, train, mini cruise, titan missile chamber, water park, etc etc etc would have bee to hard to bear.
Plus, we would have had to upgrade the car to a Hummer and I'm too much of a greenie (:rotfl::rotfl:) to do that.
p.s. she did say that if I don't behave, then I can stay at home and you can go instead :eek:

I hope you have a fantastic holiday - this sounds very similar to what we planned last spring for the summer holidays.
Make sure you get the best possible health insurance you can. 5 days into our trip, just after Flagstaff & the Meteor Crater (waste of money!) and in our RV, DH's appendix ruptured. One airlift to Tucson later, 4 operations, a week in ICU and another week in hospital, our trip was wrecked. I ended up driving the RV to Phoenix then a car to Tucson not knowing of DH was still alive. My 8 year old DD was reading out Mapquest directions to me as I clogged it down the highway.
The people of Tucson and the hospital are amazing. We did get out a few times and can recommend the desert museum where you go into a hummingbird enclosure and Reid Park zoo which was lovely too, if a bit small.
So far, so good as far as the insurance is concerned, but their Canadian agents were horrid to me whilst DH was so ill. It took the Consultant, the Social workers and the British Consul in LA to get them to sort out our flights home, but we're all here (minus one appendix) and can at least tell the tale with a wry smile.0 -

Seconded. I had a snowboarding accident in California once and - although I have to say the treatment was second to none - it was ****** expensive! A simple treatment ended up costing £2000.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

thanks for your post.
I tend to go for travel insurance that covers up to £10 million, I could go higher but that seems to be way OTT - other than the level of cover provided, how would you be able to judge a good policy from a baddun ?
The hummingbird enclosure sounds like a nice place to go for the littleuns :beer:0 -
Hi
I have just had confirmation I can take the kids out of school so I can now book the flights for 3 weeks end May beginning June. I am single Mum and would like to do one week on the coast, one week of scenery and sightseeing and one week in Vegas. I would like to get an RV for one of the weeks. Would it be safe being on my own with the kids. I have no experience of it at all. Also where is the best place to book one. Also if anyone has experiences that their kids loved (mine are 10 (boy) and 7 (girl) would be grateful for any suggestions. Many thanks. There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0 -

My initial thoughts:
Vegas is not for kids....
RV's can be a pain to drive and park. They are also gas guzzlers.
Stick to Florida with the kids.0 -

I agree about Vegas & children. we're using it as our West Coast arrival point (significently cheaper than SAN, LAX, or SFO, which was nice), where we are going to get over our initial jet lag, chill out by the pool and set out our stall for the trip.
RV's - my FiL has a 46ft RV that he tows his Jeep Chereokee with. If I speak to him tonight, I'll ask him about its MPG :rotfl:
Or explore the rest of Nevada, Arizona or California with the children instead :beer:0 -
I had got some fantastic tips through this thread and I really fancied the scenic stuff combined with a bit of tackiness. Florida is an option but I would really like to see the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam etc and also do the LA, San Diego and Vegas bit. I have been to Florida quite a lot so I fancied this side and was thinking of an RV so that we could go to see the spectacular sights and escape from the built up part of the trip. Back to nature so to speak but not sure I will feel safe thinking there's only a bit of metal between me and the wildlife/baddies who might get me. Do they have bears out there? There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0
