Ryanair Tips - guide discussion

We flew to Crete last October from Stansted.
7.15am flight. 6.30am we checked in the luggage. Each of the automated check units failed until got to no.5 or 6. We checked in and we given the response your flight gate has closed. The next flight was 4 days later. We paid for another flight from Gatwick that day and the added connection once in Crete as we had to fly to another airport.

You were already too late - security at Stansted can easily take 30 mins (it did for me last night), then there's the trek to the gates...

Sorry, you turned up for a flight with luggage to check only 45 mins beforehand? And at a peak time?

Anyone got experience of checking a cabin bag (10kg or less) when you have priority boarding? Reason being we have some liquids over 100ml. Flying from Alicante

If you fancy a (fairly) cheap upgrade, and a bit more space, especially if you are travelling as a couple, book all 3 seats in a row and you are guaranteed to have the row to yourself.:j
Obviously this will have an impact on the price of the flights, but more often than not it will still be much cheaper than flying with many of the mainstream airlines.

Perhaps you could explain how to book this extra unoccupied seat, in case anyone wants to follow your idea - is the option given somewhere in the flight booking process..?

You would have to book it as hold baggage and drop it off at the check-in desk, not take it through security to the gate. Ryanair usually offer a price for a 10kg checked in bag, during or after booking the flight.

You book an additional seat. The 'passenger' first name is "EXTRA" and their surname is "ITEM SEAT". You enter your own travel document details at check in.

Hi All, Know not exactly a tip but only place can think of for some help!



Help needed before my head explodes after booking few days away but flying with Ryanair and just downloaded their app and reading check in and boarding pass rules/regs on their website and added costs incurred if not followed! When booking I already knew about luggage and booked 20 kilo hold bag (both flights) when booking break, but didn't realise a couple of other points. Hopefully somebody here can confirm my thoughts, if there are persons who have flown with them.

If it helps we fly at end of April (manchester to faro) and at the moment we cannot yet check in online or download/print boarding passes (we have only done this once before when we went to Amsterdam for few days but that was with Easyjet and due to lateness of booking we were able to print off all documents including boarding passes, even though we had them on the Easyjet app on mobile phone & they are easier to work with imo).

However, am I correct in thinking the following with Ryanair:

To do all free/ without further cost, I cannot check in online until 48 hrs prior to departure and would then have to print off boarding passes once I have checked in online?
Doing it this way (at no further cost) is obviously possible, but my head will not allow me to take this option. I need all to be done weeks before I and my wife fly. So, the only way around this from the information of their website is, as they put it 'for convenience and peace of mind, customers can check-in for flights 60 days in advance of both departure flights by purchasing a seat'.

So, this means either wait, pay nothing and panic by leaving everything until 48 hrs prior to departure flight, or purchase seats (cheapest currently are £7) for £28.00, then check in online which will then enable us to print boarding passes. Hopefully I have understood this and would be grateful for confirmation.

If this is the only way of having all necessary documentation in hard copy form I dont mind adding £28 to cost of break overall as it is not such a bad deal, pricewise.

Hoping a more experienced traveller than we can help with above and any added advice they can give regarding Ryanair (apart from try not to fly with them next time!) Many thanks.
