They know nothing ~ in fact they know less than nothing!! Even if they knew that they knew nothing that would be something ~ but they dont

I think that the vain hope is if they throw enough figures at us our heads will explode and we will give up <confesses to said explosion, and I'm not daft either IDA >

The whole system is the single most infuriating system I have ever had the displeasure to have to have dealt with (and that INCLUDES Indian call centres). We get a fair amount a week at the moment with OH been unemployed and I dread to think how much they will say we owe them back once he is working again!!

I refuse, on principle, to allow it to take up brain space.

    Rant over :rotfl:

I've given up too - I've just made a rough guesstimate of what our income will be but with hubby working for an agency at the moment, it will no doubt be way off - should I ring them every day to change it??

I've stopped worrying about it, I had 8 envelopes from them on the same day a few weeks ago , all saying slightly different things, with no indication of which was the most recent one, and my brain just said 'Oh stuff it, I can't be bothered'.

I'm just throwing as much money as possible at our debt while they keep paying us, and then if I have to pay it all back, I will just look at it as an interest-free loan. It's the only way I can deal with it and still keep my sanity!

ILGD We did not have the option of paying it back either, at the end of every year when they review the tax credits they just take it straight from our entitlement. The first year they took £80 a week from us, for almost a year, then started to pay us £9 week.

When my hubby was unemployed for 2years they still could not get it right, I still have had to pay back £500 a year from the child tax credit. Surely there must be a set amount for how many children there are. When you call them they do just throw figures at you (IM NOT DAFT EITHER). But I just end up excepting what they say.

  • what annoys me is that you cant rely on the money, which is yours by law and you cant budget for it cos you never know how much itll be.if you get it and spend it, you find they have overpaid you, then they just take it back, and s*d you if you cant manage, cos they win everytime and you cant fight them cos you cant understand the system and they cant either.costs a fortune on the fone cos you are on so long, cant get a straight answer, then end up with enough letters to wallpaper your house!!!
apart from that its a wonderful system!!!!!
People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with :)

  • We received a letter on Friday, we have kept records of all phone calls and visits to our local tax office. At one point in 2005 the tax office informed us that our claim was stopped because my husband was involved in another claim with another lady:confused:. They are complete idiots

This year i have kept records of all phone calls, times, dates and conversations. Whether it will make a difference we will see!
  • well i phoned tax credits today and apparently my tax credit overpayment is not included because i appealed and and lost so i do not qualify to have mine refunded so it looks like ive got to keep paying back my £4000. All letters were sent out on the 31st August and if you have not received one by now your not eligable i would love to here from anyone who knows what the reasons are they are going to refund the overpayments then???
  • No letter here so it sounds like its not me then - grrrr - I was going to appeal but was advised not to by them - probably means I'm ruled out too!!!
