Just wanted to say on the subject of carers being a council carer for 15 years there are two sides to every story ......Things have changed dramatically since I did this very rewarding job as so many more eldertly and infirm to take care of ..cuts in budgets and lots more factors to consider ....I was given time slots for each patient but more often than not stayed longer than allowed as unforseen things would occur and I would stay as long as was necessary to sort it ...hence doing longer hours than I was supposed to and not getting overtime .Saying this I always tried to put myself in the patients position and think maybe one day I might need the same sort of help .
Apologise for the soapbox post ..but something I have always felt strongly about ..

I think the difference is that some people are carers and for others its a job

Sorry . need to concentrate on the good, my dear dd2 is expecting due in November, so pleased for them and I know their little girl is going to love a sibling.

Just got of phone to her when dd1 phones in tears her wedding caterers have disappeared from the internet and she can't get an answer on phone and emails bounce back it looks like they have gone and she paid in full.

I know other people have replied, so hopefully you're reassured that your daughter should get her money back. Just wanted to congratulate you on the lovely news about your DD2. :):T

    So wrong MKS :(

One agency on dispatches last night ended up shutting down. I do feel it is the result of cuts in government funding that some are so badly managed. Back to the unreal expectations of those higher up.

Was so disgusted by the programme last night that I emailed the Cabinet Minister responsible for Social Services to voice my concerns. He responded by saying that they are one of the few authorities who actually have a Contracts Monitoring Team in situ to ensure that standards are acceptable. Me thinks that they should be sacked too as obviously their monitoring leaves a lot to be desired.

The Agency was paid the full whack but failed to provide the service. So shortage of funds wasn't the issue in this case - it even makes me more wild to learn that Government Funding is diverted to a Contracts Monitoring Team who apparently can't monitor.

Right that me off TS 's soapbox as need to pop to Waitrose.

    I sympathise with your sister.

DD2, OH and three of my DGC had an very economic stay at the Hilton at Gatwick last night, courtesy of HE. :D (Mum's come in useful for loads of stuff ;)) Parking wasn't bad, either. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Flying out to one of your favourite places lunchtime today.

Enjoy. Not envious at all (she said through gritted teeth) :D I'm trawling HE comparisons constantly at the moment but not coming up with much. I will though, I can be very tenacious ;)

MKS I do think agency carers are organised differently from Council Carers as we used to have regular meeting and communication with our supervisors on what was required by the patients ..saying that It was a long time ago 40 years :eek:and things are so different this day and age ...

How right you are Nanny - many moons ago they offered me Home Help when my children were very young and DS required intense physio daily. A more caring and supportive group of ladies would be hard to find.

Once the Council put everything to Contract - I think that's when things started to fail.

Couldn't agree more. Now it is turned into a profit making business. :(
