Think of us spring chickens, we'll probably have to wait until we're 80Apparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -

Just a thought, why don't you deal with those that continually disrupt the thread? Until that issue is resolved we will continue to have problems on here.
This forum is not moderated, it is a money making enterprise and the owners (who paid a lot of money) are not interested in paying someone, or two thousands of pounds because "some" people have thin skins and keep hitting the report button.
It achieves very little, as posters have already said, just ignore.
People only keep trying if they get a response, anyone can post what they like about me my online skin is like elephant hide.0 -
Such good news :j
I've not heard of things being done this way before, can I be terribly nosey and ask questions about the mechanics of the operation
So was it your solicitor or theirs that drew up a contract for the rent while probate was going through? And was it full market rent or a nominal amount? The rent wasn't taken off the house price?
After your house was sold where did the money sit until it was needed? And your mortgage company held your mortgage offer until it was taken up?
It seems a long time for probate to go through, must have been a complicated estate with land, business, shares etc as well as the house or there was outstanding bills to pay or a tax bill to pay - I think the tax bill has to be paid within 6 months unless you go through negotiations with HMRC
My Dads estate took a while though to go through probate, 8 weeks even though there was no house to sell and all the assets were fluid and everything was straight forward.
Yes of course you can ask. The agent we bought through is also a letting agent so they drew up the rental agreement. We agreed a fair rental price with the family which everyone was happy with.
The house needs a total refurb, and not been touched since 1967, so caught in a bit of a time warp - think polystyrene ceiling tiles, Formica wardrobes with the padded doors and glass sliding kitchen cupboards. I love some of the retro touches and will be keeping a few like the cut glass light shades which look like beautiful.
Probate took a good few months, don't know the ins and outs of why this was. The collateral from the house we sold sat in just one building society as large sums of money like those from a house sale are fully protected for 6 months. Last time we did a refurb and went into rented while looking for a project to come up was a few years ago, when the whole Icelandic bank problems started. Then we had to divi up the proceeds from the house sale into different banks/bs for full protection. A lot easier this time and we downsized so are now mortgage free :TEnterprise_1701C wrote: »Congratulations on the house hampy, you were obviously meant to have it
