Heres one of the devices i'm talking about, freely available

"Your car will no longer be able to pass MOT with the airbag light on dash. Simply just removing the bulb won't work anymore, as it will have to be shown working when you turn on the ignition, and the airbag light has to go out once the car is started. The good news is that my bypass module will fix this problem, simply just Plug n Play and your car will pass MOT without additional problems."0 -

you would think that but you check the sequence and if it doenst light up you cant check it so you pass and advise another stupid mot idea like a lot of others0

Asked a good mate who's an Mot tester yesterday and he said he wouldn't fail a car forno dpf unless it was obvious it had been removed and should be there.
He said he can only go on what he can see, I expected him to say different.
He's been testing about 15 Years and does upwards of 30 cars per week so quite clued up.0 -

Why did you expect him to say different when that's what the testers' manual tells him to do.
What he suspects may be quite different from what he can see - but rules are rules - no dismantling - visual check only.
That's also why we get advisories about engine covers and undertrays obscuring things like brake-pipes.
He is not allowed to remove them to see what is behind/below/ or above them.0 -
Bigjl seems to have went a bit quiet? I wonder why?0

Who said an MOT Tester is only allowed to check a DPF visually?
motorguy has stated this repeatedly throughout the whole thread, and backed himself up.Do they have to stand fifty feet away aswell?
I don't believe he stated that, no.I await proper proof that it is legal, other than the links I have provided.
See, he never said it was legal, he never disputed that VOSA (closed) would have you, he stated that it couldn't fail an MOT! Don't you get that?0 -

I'd say the penny has finally dropped with him, but instead of admitting that, hes chosen not to contribute further to the thread. I see hes contributing to other threads so just ignoring this one.
Its a shame when a grown adult cant actually admit they were wrong.0 -
Article in the Guardian today, highlighting a car with a gutted DPF wont fail MOT.
http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/apr/17/diesel-particulate-filter-removal-air-pollution-department-for-transport0 -
Removing the filter is not illegal, but driving a car without a DPF is an offence and particle emissions from the exhaust pipe are likely to soar fivefold as a result.
From the article. As it also pointed out, there will be an increase in pollution that could be quite substantial. Worth a read.
Reading this thread has been enlightening: if you can get away with breaking the law, do so seems to be the general view. Looks like there could be moves to tighten up the MOT...0
