Sky or BT for broadband?

I am moving to a new house in two weeks and looking for a good deal for phone and BB. Currently that house has got BT service. I am not after fibre or TV package..just simple BB. I got a code for the sky deal blagged by MSE and it will get me sky phone and BB (17Mb) for about £9.65/month. I looked into BT and they have 62% discount on their basic package (17Mb) and give £50 charged to a mastercard. Combine that with £140 quidco cashback and it will come to about £6/month. Does any one know if quidco will pay on top of the £50 from BT? Also what is the service from both companies like? I have been with TT for few years so it has been a long time since I used BT and I have never used Sky....thanks

I've been using Sky for a few months with no problems of their making- a builder took out my phone line which was rapidly repaired by Openreach. The transfer fron TT was seamless and left me "netless" for about 5 minutes.
I can't comment on your cashback questions, sorry.

With BT you need to ensure you switch away in month 13 else the price will shoot up.

Sky will also increase but hopefully not to a silly level

I guess it is the same with all these offers for new customers..they will hit you hard at the end of the offer period so I will be looking to switch. If someone can confirm that quidco and BT cash back are both payable I will go with BT

The increase with BT is eye watering though.

Not sure about BT, but the Sky increase is £10 at current prices*, so unless they're going to increase it massively for every customer they have it shouldn't be a big problem for anyone that misses the end of the deal

*When you're signing up at somepoint in the process it shows you the standard cost and the promotional cost.

I've had Sky before, no problems with the service from them, I think though off the top of my head they're one of the companies I had to ring to request my balance back when I switched away (rather than them automatically sending the cheque). It gets a bit harder to remember these things for sure when you're switching everything every year or so to make use of deals.

I have friends who have BT BB (ADSL) and they have had an issue and found BT's customer services to be very poor, including being hung up on after 45 minutes on the phone.

What's the BT contract length ?

I've come across quite a few BT customers who got a 12 month offer but an 18 month contract so were stuck paying full price for 6 months after their offer ended before they could leave or renegotiate.

    Sky's offer is 12 month offer & 12 month contract I believe.

I've generally found Sky's CS to be pretty good (UK based|) and, once you get through to retentions, there are always deals to be cut once you are out of minimum term. This applies to telephony and broadband only, no experience of the TV side.
BT are invariably at or near the bottom end of the scale in every consumer survey done.
This assumes that the property is on a Sky LLU exchange, don't even consider Sky Connect, which is just a resold BT service. An exchange search on samknows will show you all the LLU options available.

OTOH, I used to be a Sky BB customer and am still with Sky TV; I've always found their CS to be very good.

(I left Sky BB because I wanted a faster service and went to Virgin.)
