With something as reflective/refractive as a diamonds yes it would, particularly if one stone(s) is set differently than the others.
Memories can be faulty, I ran a jewellers many moons ago and we had a customer who had a neck chain repaired and on return claimed it wasn't hers because the original was heavier with larger links. We provided photographs from our repairer which showed the chain was the same but the customer was adamant and complained to trading standards, the local paper etc.
The customer had bought the chain on holiday in the West Country and still had the receipt, after about 6 months of to and froing between the customer, ourselves and trading standards plus threats of legal action the customer returned with her original receipt and repaired chain to the jewellers in the West Country to ask them if they still stocked the neck chain. They still had some in stock and lo and behold they were exactly the same as the repaired chain. We never got an apology from the customer though for all the hassle.0 -

Oh come off it, different ambient lighting conditions in a photo are not going to have the effect shown in the photo. You're clearly just arguing for the sake of it, rather than having anything useful to contribute.0 -

Worth a look

Because the story has nothing to do with engagement rings?0 -

All you've done is prove my point - lighting wouldn't affect one stone on a ring. While the patterns on those are different, the general look of them is the same.0 -

Please explainIf you’ve ever wondered why your diamond looks different in sunlight versus candlelight or daylight versus office lights, it’s because the cut of your diamond responds differently depending on the light and the environment you are in. How – and where – you look at your diamond can greatly change its appearance.0 -
I'd say that they are different, despite the lighting issues.0
