Weighing out Golden Syrup / Treacle (merged)

How do you weigh this out when a recipe asks for 2oz Golden Syrup?

I put a sandwich bag inside my scale bowl and spoon the syrup into it and then cut a corner off the bag and squeeze it out like an icing bag.

Just wondered if anyone had any other ideas?

I do it backwards - put the tin on the scales and then spoon out enough to make it 2oz less....

    Ye gods! :)

The usual thing for measuring with a tablespoon is about 15 grams isn't it?

So a heaped one would be about 25 - 30 grams, and an ounce is 28.

So I just use two heaped tablespoons. It's got to be somewhere close. :)

I put the mixing bowl on the scales and warm the treacle so it is runny and easy to spoon out. I usually mix stuff in the processor so the processor bowl goes on the scales complete with the blade.

I do that too! Although you have to add a bit for when the spoon accidentally misses the bowl and ends up in your mouth

If you heat your spoon first it doesn't stick so much, alternatively dipping spoon in some olive oil first stops it sticking too :)

Tchibo digital display, clock and timer and a practical add 'n' weigh function
I find the add "n" weigh function on digital scales very handy as you can zero the bowl and add ingredients, zero again and add more.
The one I bought came from Aldi and was cheaper than these but similar functions.

Any set of scales that has a "tare" button will allow you to add and weigh. Cheap postal scales do the job very well ;)

I just guess the weight as I do with most ingredients. My Grandmother used to cook the most delicious and complicated dishes and she never owned a set of scales.

I get a plastic pot, set the scales to 0 with the plastic pot on them, and fill the plastic pot. Empty margarine tubs or yoghurt pots will do. The warmer the better.

Heating the spoon (over the gas flame or under a hot tap) makes the Golder Syrup run off the spoon easily so less waste (unless you like to lick the spoon;)
