For those that don't know the pilchard and the sardine are basically the same fish, just that one was swimming off the Cornish coast and the other was swimming in the Mediterranean. In fact, the beleaguered Cornish pilchard fishing industry has re-branded the humble pilchard as the "Cornish sardine" and demand and prices have increased.
Anyway, all this makes me wonder about using them in a sort of Cornish "Stargazy" pie, although they wouldn't have the heads and tails to poke through the pastry. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I love them as they are with some olives, biscuits & cheeseI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

I am sure I saw someone on tv (an MP trying to live on benefits) making a mashed potato topped pie with a tin of pilchards. I was going to try the same myself one day.Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

One of my favourite quick lunches is leftover rice heated in the microwave with a tin of sardines in tomatoe sauce stirred in. Peas and leftover vegs are nice too but not essential!Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20

I mix sardines in tomato with left-over spicy couscous and use it to stuff peppers, then bake them. Add some grated cheese on top near the end of the cooking process. a half pepper makes a good starter, a whole one for a main course.0
