My 11 year old daughter has been allocated her secondary school place this week. Her new school requires all pupils to have football boots as part of their PE kit. This is not something I have ever bought before or have any knowledge of.
Can anyone offer any advice what I should look out for, where is a good place to buy & average price etc.
Any help gratefully received. thank you

You are in a place where the child may want you to spend £150 but you should be able to buy a perfectly adequate pair of boots for £15.
Sports Direct will probably have the biggest range and currently have several pairs under £10. Other sports stores are available!

6 stud (screw in) and 13 stud moulded options. I wouldn't be too precious about which until she decides she loves playing the game. Don't get trainers instead of boots. The studs serve a purpose.
Make sure she keeps them clean or the laces disintegrate.0 -
Umbro do cheap boots. I paid about £20 for a pair of adult boots and used them for rugby fir several years. Perfectly good.i think i got them from sports and soccee0

My daughter also had to have football boots for secondary school - which ended up being needed for a 5-week term, only that first year.
So I took her to Sports Direct and bought a cheap pair which fit her, I think they cost £11.0 -
I wouldnt bother.. they wont ever use them!! Our school said to get them but even my son never needed any.
I had 5 children at the school and not once did they require any. I had 2 at a different high school, all boys, and they never had to have them unless competing in the inter-school tournamentsLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Just asked my teenage son and he says "Sondico" every time, ideally studs not blades. Pick up a pair in Sports Direct. Alternatively ask friends and family if any have a pair that they dont need. If the school have stipulated that they should be part of PE kit then I would make sure she does have a pair however cheap. She will feel really upset if she is the only one who doesnt have them.
There is a huge stampede for boots around the time that schools go back and popular sizes sell out so I would start looking early, unless her feet are really growing. Dont rule out second hand from Ebay either.
If she does get really into football then you will probably need two pairs and we are into the realms of £85 boots here. Luckily footie is a sport that doesnt really need other kit, other than shin pads!0 -
Got some for £6 at Sports Direct in August last year.
Been used weekly since day 1 at secondary.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

My son's came from Sports Direct when he was 11. He used them once. I'm glad I only bought a cheap pair.
He didn't wear his school jumper at all (has to wear blazer even during class, so too hot in a jumper as well), and that cost a lot more.0 -

Maybe this differs from school to school then, because my son definitely uses his for PE as well as the inter school matches - for both football and rugby.
He plays football outside of school too, so has the more expensive ones as they take a beating.
OP, I agree though that you should go with a cheapy pair to start just in case they are only needed for a short period of time.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

Just get a cheapy pair from SD. At my daughters school they change sport every half term so can end up doing an activity once in a school year, so unless she has hidden talents and is picked for the team she may get very little use out of them, even more so for girls.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Our primary offers football coaching as an after school activity for years 1 to 4 and my 5 year old is the only girl! I was really surprised at this as its just an hour running around and learning a few ball skills while the majority of parents sit inside in the warm. Fortunately she plays on an artificial surface so doesn't need boots as her feet are so small I couldn't get any in her size.0
