I still have the email and will wait for a response from the bank before I do anything else. Hopefully they'll see it my way and give me the cash.

I've been on to my nephew already and told him the score and he didn't exclaim that he has the correct account.

I have spoken to Nationwide and should give a follow up to my previous message. It is apparently quite permissible to get recommended after your account is open (up to a certain period) so I have lined up an alternative account holder.

I will check that he's eligible before taking it too far this time!

All's well that (hopefully) ends well.

One of my nephews recommended my for the Nationwide account so I went through the process and was expecting to be credited the £100 yesterday but wasn't.

My experience of Nationwide referral bonuses is that, contrary to some people's experience, the 20th of the month isn't necessarily pay-day - I've twice had bonuses paid on the 17th (in different months).

Doesn't help your problem of course - but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Hope you get your referral cash in due course.
  • Can someone please clarify!!! I'm confused. Is there a way to continue getting 5% without waiting 12 months to reinstate it?

No. Unless you e.g open a joint account and had one in sole name before.

I closed a Flexdirect (old, had been earning c1% on £1 for 15 months after initial 5% finished) and opened a new one a week or so later, beginning December '16.

Just been paid 1st mth interest in the new FD at 5% :thumb:

I wouldn't spend the interest just yet - they may notice their mistake.

When did you open the new one. It normally takes 7 working days to reduce the interest to 1% and there weren't many working days at the end of December.

Eh? I don't see the relevance: What has 'end of December' got to do with my post?

I did receive my £100, as did my brother, for his referral. In branch they told me that it's not possible to arrange a referral once the account is open but they it can be arranged if you call them.
