So guessing then, if someone moves in next door and had pigeons you are screwed.

    Nope.

Sister-in-law had a neighbour who attracted pigeons by feeding and housing them.

    They shat everywhere.

    Absolutely not.

They carry all kinds of diseases as well as making a mess.

I personally can't stand them, but they're no less annoying than the wild wood pigeons or collared doves.

Pigeon keeping should be like an allottment. Off site.

Do they not need planning permission or elf and safety stuff to do this nowadays?

Neighbours are the divil itself it seems. Unless you are that neighbour. I just don't get that people in close quarters would think a pigeon loft would be a lovely thing for the next door neighbours to live with. LOL.

Anyone could be next for this.

Mmm. If he hadn't told you about the pigeons, you'd be none the wiser until he'd moved in - and there'd not be a single thing you could do about it, short of having put a restrictive covenant onto the plots.

I presume the covenant is being written for all the unsold plots, as we speak. The first house sold will be the only one able to keep pigeons!

"Feed a pigeon, breed a rat." I've seen public health posters saying this in several countries around the world. I know that a pigeon fancier may keep them in better condition than wild pigeons, but for many cultures the pigeon - rat equivalence is well established. So lots of people from around the world will reject the purchase out of hand.

    Interesting thread, this.

Despite the reactions here, I have a friend who has pigeons, though she calls them doves, and people pay her good money to release them at an appropriate moment during weddings.

Perhaps she should consider keeping a few white rats too, divorce parties now being popular?
  • I have seen them kept on allotments but to house them in a modern back garden

I would not want the lung problems that can be caused from keeping them
