Just fine ebay £1000 for every numberplate sold whether road legal or show plate, sorted.
    Ebay will instantly ban them.

Although the amount sold may cause a few ebay a few sleepless nights.

Wont stop you buying the equipment and making your own plates though.

Not having much effect then is it?

    Has been for fifteen years.
But freely available on eBay ?

Which would need to be cross-referenced back to DVLA, wouldn't it, to have any kind of realistic credibility? And the vast majority of cars on the road already have cross-referenceable VINs visible through the windscreen - but far from all. So it doesn't actually add that much.

ALL 35 million of them? And all trailers? In what timescale? How do you propose to deal with historic vehicles? Are you suggesting that, say, the entire pre-1904 Brighton Run entry list should have post-2001-typeface plates with the chassis number on them? How do you propose to deal with historic vehicle where the chassis number isn't even necessarily unique between manufacturers? What about all the vehicles where the chassis number isn't in the modern VIN format, which was only introduced in the mid '80s?

Anyway, aren't you forgetting one small and rather important detail...? The way in which all the current "show-plate" manufacturers get around the manufacturing ban?
    Only allow blank show plates

They make them - legally - outside the UK, and import them.
Are you going to make import illegal, too? How do you plan to enforce that?
Illegal to sell yes. Illegal to import yes in the same way it is illegal to import guns and pepper sprays.

Remember, all we're talking about here is a slab of plastic with a laser-printed backing sticker. It's hardly rocket science to manufacture on the black market, is it?
No but unfortunatley it is that slab of plastic that is used in the first instance to identify a car and hence it's owner, to establish if the car is taxed and insured, to identify the car in event of an accident, and to work out where to send penalties. As it is so important, it needs tight regulation.

So you're in agreement that it's not the law that needs changing, but the enforcement?

You do understand the difference, right?

    [/QUOTE

The law would need changing as currently it is not an offence if the show plate does comply with the requirements for a registration plate - s.28, 1(A), Vehicles (Crimes) Act 2001.

I don't think we'll have any problem with clone plates from 1904 classics from Brighton some how.

Plate Creator is a good place ;)
    Hi,

My car had it's MOT yesterday and as an advisory they said to get a new number plate (Although doesn't specify which one so I guess both?)

Where can I get a cheap (after all we are MSE) but legal plate from? I've been driving 15 years now and never had to buy one so I'm not sure whats the going rate.

Halfords is £32, if this about right?

Also the plates are of a crap quality compared to a different seller I bought from a few years ago called DJH plates.

These plates from NENPP (Ezy Care) aren't cut straight along the bottom, all rough and ragged.
Bought some plates last week from the NENPP seller via Amazon. They now come with

    WWW.EZYCARE.CO.UK BD4 7PG

along the bottom of the plates.

After some simple research, they appear to come from a company called Ezy Care Limited which was dissolved in April.

Have a look on ebay, around £12 for a pair, including postage.

    and

    http://stores.ebay.co.uk/nenpp

I've used nenpp on eBay and the plates were well made and quick delivery.
