Hi,
My car had it's MOT yesterday and as an advisory they said to get a new number plate (Although doesn't specify which one so I guess both?)
Where can I get a cheap (after all we are MSE) but legal plate from? I've been driving 15 years now and never had to buy one so I'm not sure whats the going rate.
Halfords is £32, if this about right?

Have a look on ebay, around £12 for a pair, including postage.

Which one looks knackered?
There's three types of illegality of plate.
It needs to be in a specific typeface, with specific spacing. You may well be stopped and fined if those are wrong.
It needs to have the supplier details on it. It is vanishingly unlikely that lacking those would ever cause a problem.
It needs to be supplied legally - you need to provide ID and proof of the vehicle. They won't ever be YOUR problem if the supplier breaches them.
Last plates I had made up locally were from a decent local motor factor (not Halfrauds) and about £15 each, and were fully legal.
Last eBay plate I had made up was about half that price, and was legal but supplied illegally. Would I go down that route again? Absolutely.0 -
Try looking at the plates for obvious faults. Are they damaged or do they have dark areas on the yellow or white backgrounds?.0

I got a pair made up at a local independent motor factors shop for £18.0

As has been said, just under £12 for the pair on ebay delivered.
I've got a couple of sets made up this year for MOT and they're perfect and road legal0 -
Well to be honest none of them look "bad" - I've rang MOT centre and he said both need replacing - Said that they are readable but its only an advisory. It is an older car though (14 years) and as far as I know it hasn't had new plates before (I've had it 6 years and haven't done it)0

Advisories don't need to be done, but if you blow the £12 on a pair of plates it will look like a new car!
You'll think it's £12 well spent and you don't even need to go out to get them.0 -
Thanks for the ebay pointer.
Just ordered a rear plate for my caravan, £6.99 with free postage on ebay. :j Happy days.0 -

Different reg? For some cars it might be worth keeping the originals to demonstrate why they were replaced. Sometimes new plates can be a pointer to accident damageRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
