You mentioned you fixed it yourself for £50 but failed to say exactly what you did.

Well I asked if I had a claim under the Sale of Goods Act and in the end I decided I didn't so I googled the fault and found it could be related to the machine draining, which it wasn't as the pipe work was all clean and it was actually draining out. Also the fault can occur when the insulation resistance of the heater starts to break down. I did an insulation test to ground on the heater and it seemed to be OK at about 18 M ohm but when I redid the test when the heater had been hot I found the insulation resistance had dropped to around 3M ohm. I ordered a new heater (part number 41042459) fitted it and did a few washes, hot and cold and the machine now completes its cycle, happy days.
