Washing Machine bought july 2014 faulty

We bought a Hoover washing machine in July 2014 so it's now 20 months old, for £269.99, it is used most days as we are a family of 4 with 2 young children. The machine reports a E03 on the display and the cycle stops. If the machine is left until the door opens you can then switch to the rinse and spin option and complete the wash. The E03 error is supposed to be a drain fault but the machine does drain completely.

Would I have claim under the consumer rights / Sale of good to get the machine repaired?

Your claim under SOGA ( not CRA) would need to be backed up via an engineers report stating the problem was inherent etc .

I assume this is a recent fault. If so then it's unlikely that you would be able to prove that it was an inherent fault, so you'll probably have to pay for the repair unless there is a warranty in force that extends beyond your statutory rights.

Your first step would be to speak to the retailer and see what they say.

If they refuse, then you'd need proof the machine was inherently faulty (ie the fault was caused by poor manufacturing, rather than misuse or just expected wear and tear. This would normally be in the form of an engineers report. If this costs, you should be able to claim the money back from the retailer.

Unfortunately none of this is a quick process.

Have a read on this, and see how far you can take it..... (obtaining advice).
My thought is, if I buy a washing machine, I expect a decent level of use out of that machine, not upto 2 years, etc....

Actually, your first step would be to open up and check the drain pump filter (if it has one) for any blockages. Then if the fault persists contact the retailer.

I had a similar issue with dishwasher, similar age - but Zanussi. Bought from AO.com with 1 yr guarantee

I contacted Zanussi customer services via their website, sent a very polite note and within 24 hours they had rang me to arrange a repair, 48 hours later it was fixed with a new part - FOC

    Worth a try...

    Puzzled by your post.

Why would it being a recent fault have any bearing on whether the fault was inherent or not? An inherent fault can present itself at any time.

Definitely check your drain, every now and then my WM gives an error though thankfully mine tells me it's the drain. Open drain, remove gunk, hair and last time a teeny tiny plastic cow and we are good to go:)

No need to be puzzled. It's my view that if a washing machine has been in use for 18 months without showing a fault then a fault suddenly appears that's a good indication that it wasn't present at the time of purchase. I did use the word 'unlikely' and I stick by it. You may disagree but I'm pretty sure that's the argument that the retailer will use to counter any attempt at a SOGA claim.
