Received a 2nd chance offer for an item I didn't meet the reserve on, was happy to pay that amount so agreed.

Cost was £70 plus £4.89 2nd class p+p. Messaged the seller to ask if I can pay the extra he can send 1st class as I wanted to ensure I got them for this weekend.

He messaged saying he can send right away and asked me for £6 extra. Sent this via paypal.

Got the item this morning, they had still been sent 2nd class at a cost of £3.90. Contacted them to state I was disappointed with the extra £6 charge and what it was for and they just replied with 'sorry you are disappointed, will issue full refund on return of item'.

Now I am very happy with the item, got them for a lot less than new retail price (over half price), but still feel aggrieved at the extra charge.

So far I have as a neutral 'Agreed £6 xtra for 1st class postage yet still posted 2nd class, item ok tho' which just fits in the character limit. And marked 1 star for p+p charges.

Would be happy if he refunded the £6 but doesnt't look like he is going to reply anymore.

The reason I'm struggling is if he offered the item at £80 free p+p I'd be happy, but the fact he wanted extra payment and didn't even upgrade the delivery is what has annoyed me.

When he asked for £6 I would have just stuck to 2nd class. That is quite a mark up to go from 2nd to 1st. I would be tempted to leave a negative "Coat as described. Charged £6 extra for 1st but sent 2nd". He is taking the mickey charging you so much extra for 1st to start with. To still send it second is worthy of a neg
Do not forget the low stars. Also if it did not arrive by the time stated remember to answer no for that.

Thanks, estimated time was fri-mon, but needed it for this weekend hence why wanting to upgrade.

Long Time since I've bought anything from eBay, sure you used to get more characters for the feedback.

I would ask again specifically for a refund of the £6 extra.

The reply to your first email sounds like they thought you were unhappy with the item?

I would make one final request for the £6 to be refunded (don't mention feedback).

Did he actually say he would send it first class? Your OP suggests he said he would 'post right away', which isn't the same thing.

So the £6 you sent was just like a gift payment through Paypal, not added to the P&P on your original payment? How was it paid? You may be able to reclaim off paypal if he invoiced as an additional payment for first class and you didn't receive it, possibly?

He sent me his email and I sent a payment through PayPal.

In my message I said I was happy with the boots but disappointed with the extra payment.

I've left feedback now so just going to let it go, I'm happy with the overall price I paid as it's still half retail price, just not happy with the underhand tactics. I did ask what the extra £6 was for and he has avoided the question.

Not sure if I can claim via PayPal this way, might try and see what happens but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. See far too many posts on here where people claim they are having panic attacks and losing sleep over something innocuous!

But did he say he would post it first class or did you assume it? Your OP suggests he only said he would dispatch it quickly, it makes no mention of the change of service.

Yeah, sorry I was doing it from memory.

He said he can go to the post office if I paid the surcharge, but I have to reply quick as it shuts at 5pm. This was at 4:45pm. So I said that would be great and how much extra would it be. I suppose I did assume but what else could he mean if he said 'pay the surcharge'?

He did not reply until he sent me his email and said it was £6 extra.

As it was sent 2nd class I messaged him to ask what the £6 was for and that when he said he would refund in full if I returned the boots.

Got a text from him saying 'thanks for the negative feedback, I'll return the favour lol'. Not going to bother replying and get into a text battle, have blocked his number on my phone. Also aware he can't leave a neg for me as the buyer as well.

Opened a paypal dispute for the extra payment now so will see what they say, as it doesn't look like he will refund voluntarily.

Hey ho, not the end of the world if I don't get it but it is annoying.
