The thing is, councils are so overwhelmed with requests for housing, they do their best to put people off.., even if what they are saying isn't strictly true. Right up until the day I was offered emergency housing I was told various reasons why they might not. Then I went in after I'd been evicted and was handed keys and a licence for a two bed maisonette. The housing office was acting as if it was a given thing.., after all the things I'd been told that I might not be rehoused in spite of having two children with special needs! To say I was stunned (actually couldn't speak) was putting it mildly. I expected to be put in B&B at best by that point.

I really really would advise you get some help and support from a charity that focuses on your condition re housing. They may be able to help with making Housing look at the situation again. Go on about how the stress is affecting you (been there). Find out if there is a vulnerable adult team, get a social worker by hook or by crook. Get letters from specialists but focus on how your present housing doesn't meet your needs and is making your condition worse. It may do no good, but its well worth trying.

Thanks. I will give that some thought.

From what you are saying, the councils are full of nonsense.

I don't know how the council will react if I put in another, somewhat different, application for social housing. In any event, I think that even if I get on the list I would be waiting almost a lifetime.

I have just heard news of the ESA cuts going ahead. That means that should I put in a new claim for ESA at some point in 2017 I would be losing out on £30 a week. I already cannot manage! How utterly sickening (ironically)...

This is cuts to NEW claimants.

I think you are giving yourself a reason to not try. I mean this kindly. It is tough to keep on and on trying to find somewhere you can afford to live, but your situation won't change unless you find a way to change it. Honestly, I've been there. I'm still doing it. Its depressing and difficult to find a way but there's only you right now who can make things improve. Get some support. Put the blinkers on, and keep trying to find a way to find a reasonable home you can afford. It won't just 'turn up'. You can do it.

We all know its getting tougher and tougher, but you really do have to battle on, finding a way. You have the disabilities, they are both a reason you are in this situation and a way out of it in terms of housing.

Maybe but the government/council are blocking me at every attempt.

They have really made a 'charlie foxtrot' of the ESA system. I think the Tories are incompetent beyond belief (you will note it was only the Tories who bulldozed this turd through the House of Lords using every dirty trick in the book). Like hell the government finances are so bad that they justified in doing so.

This provides no 'incentive' for me to get back into work (as if those who are unable to work have a choice). All I'm going to do is never even try as if I do I will not get back the same rate of payment.

If you are 'unable to work', you will either be in the support group for ESA, which isnt impacted by the change, or you wont be entitled to ESA anyway.

Not strictly true albeit in my opinion. 'Unable to work', in respect to the WRAG really means not able to work until further notice.

Being in the SG means you have absolutely no prospect of returning to work.

This is all based on inexact science of course.

I asked my mayor if they taking in syria refugees in return for a cut of the foreign aid pot which the gov promised councils, whilst turning down people for need of affordable housing.

    Yet to get a reply.

well I did get a reply, that told me they following the law, when I asked for a proper answer am still waiting.

The PM has said he added barriers for people from outside the country to get housing, but that means nothing as they will just present themselves homeless. So I do think immigration is a problem with soical housing stock, but its defenitly not the sole problem, its just part of the problem. Ultimately they need to massively ramp up building of new houses and also probably buy a load of housing from the private market to help short term demand before the new houses are built, but they wont because it will upset the market for existing property owners, as well as destroy the BTL market which many are using as a pension fund or second income.

I mean aside from the irrelevant stuff on immigration, i'm curious why your asking the mayor on policy? - Since that's set by the council?
