After checking my Experian credit report I can see I've might a slight error in a recent card application. I've put down my month of birth as December and it should be November! I'm Not sure what to do about this! Will this go against me? It was an honest mistake!

No need to get your knickers in a twist
Have a word with the Fraud Application Team with the credit card company with whom you applied, they may ask you for proof of your d.o.b. such as a birth certificate or passport. Once they are happy they will amend your d.o.b. and manually review your application for a possible credit card.
At the same time you can ask them nicely to contact the credit reference agencies and inform them accordingly to update their records.
If this situation leave a permanent mark negative mark on your credit file discuss with credit reference agency if there is a remedy and follow there advice.0 -
Ok thanks I'm sure I'm not the only person out there who's made an error. The application was referred and I'm guessing that was the reason why! I will contact them in the morning and see what they advise. :-)0

Of course I know my DOB....I was looking at the credit check the bank has done and it's gives the details on the check its self, such as name address and DOB. It's all correct except the month of birth is Dec and it should be Nov. From thus it's obvious I've made a mistake.0

I spoke to Experain they said not to worry and contact the lender. Spoke to the bank and they made a note of the issue they couldn't amend the DOB there and then. The underwriters will be in contact to discuss the application in the next few days I can discuss getting it updated then.0

Now that you've advised them of the mistake, make sure you get an undertaking from them that they haven't put you on the CIFAS backlist. Financial Services providers operate on a "shoot first, ask questions later (or not at all) basis"; you've got to be careful with them and watch them closely.0

Do you really think they could add a CIFAS entry for a genuine error I know it's my own fault but it would be very harsh of them to do that. I just thought the underwriter would just amend the date and perhaps ask for passport or something to prove it.??0 -
If its any consolation, I applied for an Argos card at the till in-store a few years ago, and the cashier, who was new to the job and seemed a bit unsure of what he was doing, put my DOB in the wrong order. I only noticed this when I checked my Argos online account. A quick email to customer services quickly solved this, no fuss.0

I spoke to them again and they have added a note to the application to say about the error so the underwriter will know about the issue.0

That's great thanx! I've called to let them know so there is nothing more I can do! I'm sure there are plenty of other people out there that had made a genuine mistake!0 -

They probably won't, but in the unregulated world of CIFAS there's nothing to stop them doing so. This board is littered with examples of people making honest mistakes and then being shafted with misreporting at the CRAs and worse. That's why you need to get an undertaking from them. Ask them the question directly; hopefully they will answer it.0
