Also lost the start menu and the new notifications, just get the eggtimer and then nothing else.
Tried the updates through : ms-settings: but still nothing. As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
I am experiencing the same issue. The search the web and windows box freezes and Cortana is nowhere to be seen. I thought I had resolved the problem by doing a System restore then after a few days the same thing happened again. No pint there fore in keeping doing a system restore. I have noted what has been said about updates but I cannot see anyway on windows 10 to stop this happening and how would I know what updates are causing this all to happen. I have tried Microsoft help line but to no avail. The fix it does not work on windows 10. It would appear this matter is becoming a much wider and reoccurring problem which Microsoft are no nearer putting a fix in place.is there a solution I have missed!!!!0

Gave the Win10 "free upgrade" a go without any research.
Ended up doing a clean re-install of 7 after a load of stuff was deleted by Mount Olympus. Found out later that spyware was the default and crap AV was the option.0 -
After an update of Win10, the same happened to me on two computers. The start menu has disappeared
I was shown an easy fix
1: Desktop >> right click >> New short cut >> type location
>> type .. msconfig >> next >> name folder. name whatever you like, I called it msconfig
This puts a new folder on the desk top. Open the folder which brings up a system configuration box.
>> select tab >> boot >> and then on the left, check boxes "safe boot" and "network"
Click apply and OK and you will be asked to reboot, click yes.
When the PC reboots your start menu should be back again.
Go back to where you checked "safe boot" and uncheck it
Apply >>> OK >>> REBOOT
Now your computer will have a working start menu.
This worked perfectly for me but no guarantee it will for you, but well worth doing it and if it works for you, pass it on0 -
