When I originally spoke with them on the phone in their very detailed chat - which took three phone calls each taking over two hours.

Hardly a flag for a swift service.

Half a day from your life.

Which other lender would think differently? Also which other lender could give 85 per cent mortgage on new build flat and not take weeks? If someone csn think if a lender do let me know!

You need to do a full fact find with a broker.

No one should be suggesting lender (although some might) without knowing your full details.

I can think of 2 off the top of my head with very sensible criteria for family employees, but I don't know if you meet the rest of their criteria so cannot recommend them

  • Yes In hindsight all the long phone calls were a red flag but I thought with all the regulations now that was the norm for all lenders.
I am now torn between carrying on with this and going elsewhere. I have already emailed the company accountant to ask him to contact HMRC as they would be able to confirm my earnings - albeit I had a very small pay rise in the summer 2015 - were the same last year.
Meanwhile I am going to be straight and ask the lender if they have an issue with family businesses.

The Lender has an issue with being prompt.

The usual approach to check a family business is to obtain an Accountants Reference - not a major complication.

  • Thank you Amnblog. I will suggest that and see what they say.

You seem to be suggesting that 'professional' people who have degrees are incapable of lying to a mortgage lender.
Does the opposite apply en masse or is it just a subsection of the proletariat that you believe are theiving fraudsters?

Well I am a bit speechless!! Well done to the original poster for having a fantastic mind set for wanting to do well for his future. Good luck, I feel you will get what you want.
  • Thank you Snoop2008. Your response makes me feel better and more optimistic if I just do my best to give the lender what they need, it will hopefully be ok

I am sorry but it never occurred to me that working in a family business could be seen as something criminal. People have worked in family businesses for centuries. Also I have nothing to hide and have already sent the lender piles of information.
I find it sad that some people on here seem to think differently. But maybe that's because as a family we are all extremely honest snd hard working.
I came on this forum for help about an issue I think will also affect other people. And no I did not think working in a family business would mark me out as a potentisl criminal and I sm offended at that suggestion

Don't take things personally. Other posters are just letting you know why the lender is requesting further information.

You must remember that you want their money, and the lender is legally bound to undertake whatever due diligence they consider necessary. No one is saying you are a criminal. You surely will understand that the potential for some misrepresentation is higher when working for a family firm. Hence the need for third party checks.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

I bet your family business vets potential customers very carefully before offering any form of credit facility. Lenders vetting you is no different. In business there is always a degree of risk. The art is to minimise it. To the lender you are just a name on a piece of paper. Therefore the appropriate checks will have to be undertaken. This is real life. Speed is not a necessity nor a requirement when making the correct decision. If you don't like the lender move on and take your business elsewhere.

    Thrugelmir how patronising you sound.
I came on this forum for advice and also because I thought my experience might be helpful for others in my situation.
I am grateful for the advice. I also have no problem giving whatever the lender requires. I just want them to be happy to offer a mortgage.
I was going to post how I get on but I sm going through enough stress right now and can do without the remarks of Thrulmir and mrgringe.
The bottom line is I have provided P60, three months current account bank statement, three months credit card statement, three months savings account statement, three months payslip, proof of deposit I have saved plus my mum has given bank statement to prove deposit and signed it as a gift and agreed to being credit checked. I have given passport, driver's licence. The company accountant will give a reference as will the independent payroll people we use. This is not my first mortgage and I have no debts, no student loans, no loans. Never been overdrawn ever, saved my first deposit for my old flat completely myself (with Halifax mortgage - highly recommend), always pay off my credit card in full every month, am on electoral roll and was offered almost £100k more than I am asking for.
I don't blame the bank - they are just strangled by regulation these days. But if I am having difficulties getting a mortgage then it is not surprising so many people rent is it.
There needs to be some common sense. Why ask someone to submit all this when really it is worthless. Why not just ask for HMRC stuff straightaway if payslips and P60 aren't going to be enough.
Anyway rant over. I will get on with this myself. Thank you for those who have helped. And to those judgemental individuals who just like to lecture, think again before you post.
