If you are in a rush you really shouldn't have gone with Leeds in the first place.

I would phone again on Monday, don't trust them to come back to you.
    I am a Mortgage Adviser
You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser Code of Conduct. Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as financial advice.
  • When I originally spoke with them on the phone in their very detailed chat - which took three phone calls each taking over two hours - they said mine was straightforward as there were no problems on affordability.

Originally I did look for a mortgage broker but I just didn't know who to go to or if any broker would be that good. I had checked their criteria carefully to ensure I fitted and so, having been reassured I was straightforward I went with them. I was happy they also had good rates. That was in the middle of January and I have sent everything to them that they've asked for straightaway. However, they have asked for every single bank statement possible all in dribs and drabs. Now they are asking for something from HMRC that I have no idea even existed (one thing he the guy did say was that a P60 isn't proof of income apparently - I thought it was a legal document but never mind...!)

Anyway betmunch I will ring on Monday and thank you everyone for your help and comments so far.

They probably want your three/five year earnings history. I believe it is called your Statement of Earnings. You will need to ring HMRC for this.

You seem to be suggesting that 'professional' people who have degrees are incapable of lying to a mortgage lender.
Does the opposite apply en masse or is it just a subsection of the proletariat that you believe are theiving fraudsters?
  • Thanks Wail. How long would that take to get?

Mrginge The only reason I mention a degree is I am not employed in the family business because it is easier for me to work for family! I work in the family business because I love the industry we're in. The point is I am qualified to do my job and in fact I could probably earn more money working for someone else.
I think it is a shame my integrity is questioned simply because I work in the family business.

Surely you can see why it's scrutinised more? You are in a much greater position to abuse the system.

See also the LBS thread on here, they're renowned for being a pain with documentation.
  • I am sorry but it never occurred to me that working in a family business could be seen as something criminal. People have worked in family businesses for centuries. Also I have nothing to hide and have already sent the lender piles of information.
I find it sad that some people on here seem to think differently. But maybe that's because as a family we are all extremely honest snd hard working.
I came on this forum for help about an issue I think will also affect other people. And no I did not think working in a family business would mark me out as a potentisl criminal and I sm offended at that suggestion
  • By the way I think banks should be doing more to help small family businesses - especially when they employ many other people

No one has said that. Every property purchase in the UK is treated as potentially fraudulent because of money laundering requirements so you're hardly being singled out.

If you're that offended find another lender.
  • Which other lender would think differently? Also which other lender could give 85 per cent mortgage on new build flat and not take weeks? If someone csn think if a lender do let me know!
