How to find which Boeing 777 I will be flying on?

Hi there I posted previously about my son's flight on Monday to San Diego with BA. Am waiting for tomorrow so we can check him in but I have been reading up a bit about choosing which seat will be best out of what is left via Seatguru.
however i know that he is flying on a Boeing 777 BA (operated by Finnair) on the way out and actually the same on the way back from Philadelphia to LHR (American airlines) but can't find anywhere which specific type of 777 this would be.
Please can anyone help me as to where i could find this information. thanks

  • I believe that there are a fair few BA employees who post on this forum:

so it might be worth registering and asking on there.

Also when I look at meal option it says "no meal available" on the LBA to LHR and LHR to San Diego flights? I was thinking even the most economy tickets provided food on BA flights?

I assume you mean you have a Finnair flight number but the flight is operated by BA (Finnair do not operate to SAN) you should be able to put the BA flight number and date into seatguru to see the model (Always subject to change)
meal details will be on the operating airlines website - if LBA-LHR is like other domestic flights it is breakfast before 09:30 or a drink and a choice between biscuit, crisps or nuts any other time. Meal service will be provided on the long haul flights

On the left of the screen just above the forum there is a "New thread" button. Click on this and you can ask your question.
Just in case you can't fine it, I've asked for you.

I fly for BA and we do not normally operate B777 on this route

The morning flight to SFO is normally operated by B744 (Boeing747-400) and the afternoon is either B744 or A388 (Airbus A380-800).

The OP isn't flying SFO. They are going to San Diego (SAN) which is a 777. There are two seating versions (3 and 4 class arrangements) and the OP just wants to know which will be the correct one for next Monday.

I can see from the responses on Flyertalk that it's likely to be a 3 class 777-200ER (3 class means no First class). It is possible to see the aircraft type assigned within Manage My Booking on BA.com, but you need to be able to see the seat map, and not sure if that's possible before checkin if you don't have status or pay for advance seat assignment.

He will have an advantage over all the passengers whose journey starts in London, as he can check in for the long haul at the same time as the domestic sector (ie 24 hours before the LBA-LHR), and those starting in London can only check in 24 hours before the LHR-SAN flight. He will therefore have a better choice of seat as long as he checks in as soon as the LBA-LHR flight checkin opens, though anyone with status or connecting from somewhere further away could get in first.

It's been a long time since I flew long haul in economy, but a couple of things to consider for seating:

That config has 2 economy cabins, the front one has less seats (rows 16-24), which may be a factor. Rows16 and 26 are bulkheads and have more knee/leg room, but will be in demand and also contain bassinet seats, so the risk of babies nearby if that would bother him.

If he's not a big fan of window seats, as a lone traveller it's perhaps worth considering an aisle seat in the centre block of 3 seats. That makes it less likely to need to get up for others during the flight, as if a couple sits next to him they will probably go out their side.

As we told you in the other thread, don't worry about the meals, he'll definitely get fed on the long haul. He'll be fine :)

Thanks very much for that. Will make sure we're ready and waiting in the morning to choose a seat as soon as we can
