Most of the toiletries I threw away were a couple of years old so probably not much good now - I still have a now nicely streamlined collection of bottles and jars!

Yes, the dress was lovely - its purple and perfect for wearing to Xmas parties etc, i had seen it once before and resisted, but thought about it so much that i had to go back for it! It was £38, so not too bad, a bargain really ;)
  • I'm definitely a shopaholic, although I've really been forced to take a good hard look at my spending over the past year or so (lightbulb moment and all that!). Instead of saying, "You will never ever spend again", I've learned to deal with it in a cheaper way.

I get paid every 4 weeks on a Friday. On the Saturday after payday, I give myself some cash for CDs, DVDs, clothes, books, etc, but the rule is that they can only come from a charity shop. It's a daft game I play with myself. Some months it's a fiver, but the most I've allowed is £20, and I can spend hours trawling along 6 or 7 charity and second-hand shops trying to find something I want. A penny over my allowance and I just don't buy.

Managed to pick up some nice things this way and I value them much more than had I just went in and bought them full price when new. Best bargain was a woollen grey full length Next coat for £6.95 (original price was over £100!), although last trip out I only gave myself fiver, but got 4 books and a DVD (Catch me if you Can) for that.

I like shopping and it's always been a social event for me, so instead of losing that, I just set a limit on my spending and see how far I can take it. Even more fun to drag a friend along too.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • I'm not so bad today. Went on my lunch just itching to shop and purposely went to the shops to buy something - I just gave in - couldn't help myself HOWEVER I couldn't buy a damn thing because I felt too guilty. :(

I really need to kick this habit - stupid thing is when am not in debt I dont want to spend - when i am in debt i just have to shop. how backwards is that!

  • Are you able to take things back if you buy them and then feel guilty? Some people satisfy the urge to shop by buying stuff and then return it and get the money back. Job done :D

No Primark near me I'm afraid. Anyhow they are not a good look for me as I am a very old chunky monkey.

Thanks to my chunky legs the only boots I can find to fit will cost me £125. Can't afford to buy them yet though. I help out in a very good local charity shop and I do buy some amazing things from there but not clothes as I don't need them. There was a Betty Berkley (sp) black suit sold today but not until the price was reduced to £7.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.

Hello Shopaholics... very quiet around here? Is everyone off shopping?!!

    Hope not.

Payday came and went for me... did buy some bits n bobs for DD from charity shops, and a skirt(£1) pair of knickers (50p) and tank top (£4, full price!) for me from Asda.

Feels like i've treated myself, but very cheaply!!

Also found a pair of boots in back of cupbpard hardly worn at all (never in last 2 years) and voila as good as having a new pair of boots!!

    Armchair Psychology! Gotta love it!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....
    (it's part of my charm!)
