Have you ever noticed that on Shopaholics the women who have spent thousands and thousands on beauty treatments always have faces that look older than their real age? I have the theory that they've done so many different treatments that they've actually ended up aging and damaging their skin. So my theory is that there is an optimum amount to spend on beauty therapy, and if you go over that you are in danger of doing more harm than good.0

I agree, especially with this micro dermabrasion stuff...not sure how many times stripping the top layer of skin off can be good!...I like my coffee black, just like my metal!

I messed up yesterday.Went out shopping with my mother and ended up buying a cashmere sweater and a fancy scarf.I was going to leave the shop without them but then my mother said I would kick myself when I got home and regret it, and the scarf was so me, (I have about 6 very similar ones).I messed up, im sorry now, but I was feeling fed up and miserable.I also bought my baby a pair of very expensive white shoes for his christening which you wont even see under his robe.I will never learn.0

Like you say, even a trip to Asda burns £20 or £30 quid when all I wanted was a pint of milk and some bread! That's actually been my downfall for a while now, sinc I out weight on I don't like clothes shopping so much, so I spend in Asda!
I did my first online shop with Tesco earlier this week though anthat sems to have helped a bit
I have EXACTLY the same problem, Asda is 5 mins from my work and I am always calling for the odd thing and spending £20 - £30 instead, I too have gained weight (gone from size 12 to 16 in the last year) and so clothes are not calling to me like they used to but I just LOVE supermarkets lol!!!:rotfl:0 -
I'm certainly not a shopaholic, but if I go to the shops I'm always tempted to spend beyond my means. The best solution I've discovered is to avoid the shops in the first place.
Now I know that sounds stupidly obvious, but in the evenings and at weekends when I'd usually be tempted to just "pop to the shops" for a look around, my boyfriend and I do something free instead. We either go walking (a personal favourite), or go out on our bikes (keen mountain bikers anyway), or go to a museum or gallery (fantastic way to kill a couple of hours), or get some free cinema tickets from the freebies board (I've had 4 lots in the last week alone!).
I find that doing something like that takes my mind off shops, it gives me something else to put my energy and focus towards and is actually a lot more fun than shopping. And as someone previously said, once you've been away from the shops for a while the urge disappears. I find myself wanting to go walking a lot more often instead which benefits me in more ways than just saving money... :T0 -
I am with Cazz on this.
I used to treat shopping as a leisure activity, I am bored so I would wander round the shops and treat myself to something for my hamster or my flat or a pressent for someone or books. I think this is where a lot of people go wrong! Shopping is NOT a leisure activity it is a sure fire way of spending money!!
I know avoid going shopping unless I really need something. If I need milk or bread I go into a small shop so I dont buy things I dont need that are on special.
Good luck curbing your cravings!Debt Free - done

i too am a shopaholic - wow feel like i am sat in a circle.. my inner secret is out.
I too have been trying to desperatly curb my spending and i think i am getting there. i used to be a big primark etc fan but actually i have changed my view in the past few weeks. Thier stuff is SO cheap that you buy twice as much - the key in there is to think "if this were £25 woudl i still buy it?" and invariably i normally put it back. But more than that, how many times do you wear your primark top, or really look after it? I know i dont.
So i have come to the conclusion it is far better to invest in classic pieces which wont wear quickly or look tired after one wash. This has made me buy and spend far less, because i am looking for the perfect item rather than just any item.
Also i agree with previous posts that if you go shopping a lot you want to go more - like any addiction really. If you dont go, then actually you start to not NEED to go.
Good luck everyone is battling it!!! xx0
