now go and sell it and buy a petrol and pay more road tax ,the amount of people who get seduced by low road tax but a car not fit for their use is unbelievable and trust me here ive tried telling these people they dont want a new diesel but all they think is old oil burners that would run on most anything and dont appreciate the way things have changed

Ive heard of them being jet washed by a few different places now and was quite surprised by it. I'd assumed initially that was a joke. Either way, the dpf shouldn't block if it continues to regenerate, sadly ours wasn't doing so. :(

We'd pondered over bypassing ours but having looked over that link above its just as well we didn't.

    A DPF blocking is inevitable.

Because it only gets rid of Soot when it Regenerates. This leaves the Ash behind which can't be got rid of with during Regeneration.

Hence the need for them to be replaced or cleaned.

Ceramex seem to be one of the big players in this field and have been for many years.

Hmmm... when we bought our VW Golf TDI Bluemotion the dealer went to great pains to understand our driving habits...

That's exactly what a good dealer should do. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad dealers out there and, legally, they probably only need to address this sort of thing if the customer raises it - although there'd be an interesting argument to make in court about whether the regen requirements of current DPFs make them unfit for the "normal" use most people would expect from a car.

If that argument could be made - and I suspect it could - then it would become incumbent on the seller to specify appropriate use before sale. As it appears yours did voluntarily

    Yes it will.

I was of the same opinion as you but things have changed.

The MOt issue is minor compared to breaching Construction and Use Regs.

It won't fail because the only allowable inspection is visual. Unless the tester has borrowed Superman's x-ray vision for the day, he has absolutely no way of knowing what, if anything, is inside the case.

Same applies to the C&U issue - no-one is ever going to know in the normal course of events so it's a non-issue. At least until DVSA start doing road-side checks with particulate meters.

I think Cowboys use the jet wash option, the correct procedure uses an oven.

Ash needs to get cleaned out after about 80k I think?

If you cut a DPF it will be hollow. Simply knocking it will reveal it has been gutted.

Gut your DPF all you want.

Just don't post back here moaning that you got yourself in trouble due to gutting it.

Doesn't matter - it could equally be hollow from collapsing internally and blowing its contents out the back. As far as the test is concerned it's still visually present.
  • For the OP, it might be worth getting a pofessional DPF cleaning company such as Ceramex, linked above, to clean out your present DPF and then maybe flog the car on and replace with something with either a petrol or petrol hybrid which can cope with stop start routines.
As mentioned in one post, it won't be long till the EGR of doom rears its ugly head too, another nasty bill that will be.

Maybe another car maker might be worth investigating whilst about it, one who has more faith in their product than a measly 3 years warranty cover would be a clue where to look.

if you had done any sort of "research" as you said you had you would have found out about this. It's no secret. I am guessing that you thought "everything in life was as relaible as a Volkswagen" which is utter bs

It was probably true in 1963.
