How clean is your house?

Ok, so something that has been getting to me for some time is housework!
I am rubbish at it, my house is only ever tidy when I am expecting company and as much as I look around it and think ' wow, I really need to clean up' I just don't seem to be able to do it.
I am busy, I work shifts both in a job and doing a placement for my uni course, I also have some online work I do on a rota, I have to otherwise I cannot afford to live.
I've got 2 children who I encourage to clean up after themselves, but let's face it if I don't lead by example how can I expect them to be tidy?
Please tell me I am not alone on this? I have just had 2 days off and all I have managed to do is some washing up, a load of washing and sort through some paperwork (only because I lost something I needed!).
I feel like such a failure, WHY can't I just get on and do it like other people?
Is anyone else the same or is it just me who is a lazy so and so?

I am RUBBISH at cleaning. So much so that I've bitten the bullet and decided to get a cleaner in to deep clean in the hope that it will encourage me and help me to keep on top.
Shame has meant that I am doing the dreaded cleaning before the cleaner. The cleaner cleans but not tidies so I'm in the process of tidying everything away before she comes tomorrow. Its not the cheapest option but I work full time too and would rather have my down time to chill than clean.
And don't feel like a failure for not cleaning. Some people really enjoy cleaning, others enjoy making a mess. You're not a lazy so and so, you've just got different priorities.Back in the red :mad:

I would try to figure out if you're overwhelmed at the prospect of cleaning, exhausted from your busy life, or being lazy?
Do you like a clean and tidy space?
I don't enjoy cleaning, but I enjoy living in clutter and dirt even less (makes me feel stressed and depressed.)
I've realised that it's much better to keep on top of things than let everything go. So I tidy up as I go about things daily, doing dishes after every meal and laundry every day. I then clean the entire house from top to bottom once a week and touch up anywhere that needs it in between (hallway, kitchen floor, bathrooms.)0 -
Dirty and untidy are two different things.
I'm not particularly tidy, as long as I know where to find things untidiness doesn't really bother me. My home is definitely 'lived in', I can't bear houses that are impersonal, 'show home' types where you feel like you're making it untidy simply by your presence.
I don't like (or have) a dirty house though. I find that cleaning as I go suits me best, rather than doing set jobs on a certain day.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I think a lot of people (including my family) mistake cleaning for tidying.
Cleaning is hoovering, polishing etc. It should always be tidy. Much easier to keep a place tidy than to tidy up after a mess.
Having said that, my house is a tip. I hate it but we just have too much junk. In my house, if there's a surface, there'll be something on it. An open door, something hanging off it.

My house is clean but really cluttered and full.. so appears a pit.. but I regularly shift stuff to clean under it and am forever flinging and selling and it makes no difference.. we are simply too much stuff.. The kitchen and loo and bathroom are all cleaned daily and the stairs are clear .. so safety is kept on top of and germs are held as much at bay as possible.
I have needed to vacuum the hallway since yesterday but my back is killing me!
One day the children will be gone and so will most of the mess... until then.. I will look forward to that level of tidy!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
There is a difference between clean and tidy but a tidy home is much easier to clean and less dust collects.
I like my house very clean and tidy however my DH feels differently and having an 8 week old has reduced my ability to clean or tidy as much as I would like.0 -
I am a naturally tidy person, I will consider where something is going to go (or more importantly go away) before I buy something.
I hate clutter & mess, it makes me stressed.
If my home is not near showroom standards I feel unhappy & unable to relax.
I work hard & I have a weekly cleaner.0 -
I've been 'working' hard to try and make my flat easy to keep on top of, my health currently prevents me from working (which I hate). So being tidy is now a necessity for me. My aim is to have no more than 20 mins to tidy/clean a room and I have a cleaner in every 2 weeks to get the cleaning bits I cant do atm.
That said, its easier to keep tidy with fewer belongings and that makes cleaning easier. There are some threads on the OldStyle board that may be helpful to you:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
