looking at the £19.99 pm EE phone (my first smartphone !)

    http://shop.ee.co.uk/mobile-phones/pay-monthly/samsung-galaxy-j5/details#choosePlanAnchor

Will check email, FB, and obviously look on internet. I saw a phone used as a Sat Nav recently (that would come in handy), but when I get used to a modern phone, will I find that 1GB is not enough ? (Updates take up a lot of useage/data, don't they ). Could I upgrade after buying, to 2 GB ?

    Confused - help pl

Hi, I'm so pleased you asked that question because recently I asked the same and after a bit of fannying about, found this website that proved to me 1GB would be more than enough:-

    http://www.confused.com/mobile-phones/mobile-data-calculator

Further to that, now that I have the 1GB, I am trying to get into the habit of switching off "data allowance" when I'm out in town because I know only to well, that almost every other shop is throwing free wifi at me and all I need do, is log into their's should I so wish. Then back at home, my phone always connects to my home wifi automatically.

Not only that, I mentioned this habit to my son-in-law and he told me not to bother switching off data allowance because 1GB is more than enough knowing my usage. He added the proviso that I should turn off all those things that needn't run (in the back ground, but I will let him do that). He said that until recently he had 500mb and never ever went anywhere near that with data switched on. So 1GB is more than enough.

On the subject of allowances, if you have your own smart phone, or if a family member would give you one of their unused models, you'd be well advised to use a company called https://www.lifemobile.co.uk and look at their deals. 1500 mins, unlimited texts, 1GB all for £7.95 a month, but if you say, "can I have the uswitch deal" you get it for £6. Call centre in the UK, swift response, no delays, in fact well over 200 users are praising on ukhotdeals so it can't be bad.

It'll be a huge phone. Almost phablet.

Mobile data can be switched off, not allowance.

Yes, an unfortunate incorrect word issue thing.

What package are you on with EE and how much does it cost ?

EE isn't known for being good value so unless you something only it offers you can find better value. If you want EE coverage without the EE price MVNO's such Life Mobile may offer better value but not all the features or 4G speed EE offers. Do you need those feastures ?

I guess screen size is a personal thing but I'd find that just too big to carry in my pocket or wallet and harder to use single handed.
