Never selling on eBay again!!

I don't sell on eBay often but I have recently lost some weight and wanted to get rid of some clothes that were too good to just go to the cash for clothes place.
I listed my items, all items listed as used and posted at least two pictures for each item. I sold about ten things but now two people have come back to me saying they aren't happy
First person saying the trousers were ripped, they weren't! There was signs of wear on the bottom where the trousers touch the ground! I offered her a refund but then she just gave me negative feedback without replying to me.
Then the next person wants to return jeans which she says aren't fit to be worn due to wear in the crotch area and that they smelled of wet dog!? Now these jeans were literally worn a handful of times because I was already losing weight when I bought them, they were too big straight away! And I have no idea why they would smell, I even spritzed them with perfume before sending them
There is no point in disputing either of these buyers though because eBay will just side with them straight away. I am vowing never to sell on eBay again!!

we used to sell clothes on ebay regularly. it was a complete nightmare. always people moaning, complaining claiming they've not received items or simply lying about the condition when you've been perfectly honest in the description, pictures and sizing.
We stopped as its just not worth the hassle and there are always the ones who just leave negative feedback to be vindictive
Buyer protection just allows sellers to be taken advantage of IMO. I gave a refund to a lady who claimed the item hadn't arrived. Ebay refund wasn't working so sent a refund direct to her paypal account. Guess what? After i did that she opened a case and got another refund, ebay took it straight out, she claimed i hadnt given her one. despite providing transaction ID's bank statements etc ebay are still 'investigating' 6 months later. No sign of my money backEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -
2 photos of clothing is not enough.
Did you include photos of the trousers where they were worn at the bottom, and detail this in your description?
Trousers being worn at the bottom from "touching the ground" is not normal I'm afraid.
And why on earth would you spray clo these with perfume before sending them?? Just make sure they're freshly laundered and totally dry before sending them, otherwise they will smell.0 -

How do you know it did arrive?0 -
Used clothing is a bit of a learning curve. The temptation to describe them better than they are ends badly. Your expectations may be lower than others. Just because you think they are in "great" condition, does not mean a difficult buyer will agree. You need to describe in detail every defect from creases to pulled cotton.
It is a shame you have taken two bad experiences and decided to give up. I often sell used clothing for close family and have found as long as you accurately describe them, buyers are happy. If they aren't then often if you offer a return straight away then either you never hear from them again or they return and you can block them. I even once won a not as described case. The buyer claimed the clothing was marked with blood (they weren't). I offered a return. The buyer said they could not be sent through the post as they were in such a poor state and needed to be binned. This went on for a few weeks, I asked Ebay to step in. They closed the case in my favour and told me it was because I had offered a return straight away and the buyer had refused to co-operate.0 -
Agree maybe more pictures and a close up of the bottom of the trousers would have been better... It is incredibly difficult to sell on eBay now! People expect such a high standard, e.g. items arriving wrapped extremely neatly and in tissue paper. There a lot of rip-off merchants who will complain about anything just to get the automatic refund from eBay and keep the item for free.
I've noticed recently several buyers will bid on an item and then when they win, will not pay up or reply to any communication, so I've then wasted my time waiting for them and had to relist. Very frustrating! Has anyone tried selling clothes on any other sites?0 -
I used to sell some clothing from clearance stocks, I would only ever sell in wholesale lots. It's way too much hassle to sell individually to get a few quid back.
As far as OP goes,
"And I have no idea why they would smell, I even spritzed them with perfume before sending them"
Perhaps they smelt of stale perfume, combined with the smell of a plastic bag or envelope. From that sentence you'll be much better off not selling anywhere..0 -
You get 12 free pictures - use them. Not only does it give the buyer more detail but if you also take some close ups and any blemishes and imperfections then you cover yourself better.0

The problem, I think, is the difference of perspective on what eBay actually is from buyers and sellers point of view.
When a buyer logs into eBay they are faced with a screen telling them every purchase is guaranteed to be what they expect by eBay. We've lived with the distance regs and the other regs that replaced them for some time now and people have certain expectations of buying online.
Now, I'm not accusing the original poster of this (who knows), but people who think that eBay is a massive online car boot sale are up for a rude awakening.
When the guy down the road who knows you've got an eBay account tries to get you to sell something for him, he has no idea that you need to examine, photo and mention every single blemish on the item in great detail, guarantee the item is exactly what the customer expects or risk loosing the money or if it turns out to be a long protracted battle, having the amount debited from your PayPal account and your eBay account blocked for life.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Your statutory rights are not affected.0 -
To be fair, if there was fraying on the bottom of the jeans then you should of stated so and took pictures. Aslong as you describe it will and list anything like that then youll be fine.
Why would you spray them with perfume if they were fine? I dont understand that? I wouldnt want to open a package and it smells of someone elses perfume. Maybe they dont like your perfume.
I've sold lots of clothes on ebay and never had a problem but i do list if there is any marks/ damage and take a picture.0
